Exploration Part 3 by Rachel Harries

This week I'm still working with the lovely 13Arts Watercolour Set in my That's Crafty! 6 x 6 Tabbed Album.

I start off by cutting two pieces of Strathmore Watercolour Paper to size for my pages as I will adhere them onto the grey board/white board when they are finished, I could paint directly onto the board if I prepared them with some watercolour ground but for me I am happy to work on the paper and then add it to my journal.

I took my That's Crafty! A4 Circle Stencil and drew some circles across my pages.

I then picked a few of the circles and added a layer of a fairly light colour in some background areas, the key to watercolour glazing is to make sure each layer is dry, this is really important.

once this first layer had dried I used the stencil again to add a few more overlapping circles.

I then added a darker colour again in a few of the circles and waited for it to dry.

I then continued added layers of watercolour, waiting for each layer to dry thoroughly before adding the next one.

I added a lighter a colour in the final layer.

I added some pen work in white Posca pen and a black Micron pen.

I then took the Katzelkraft Cat Stamps and stamped three images, I used the same glazing technique to add colour to the cats, starting with a light layer and then once that was dry adding another layer of colour. I also stamped a sentiment from the Katzelkraft "Be Batman" set. I added the images to the pages and created a spotlight using a circle mask from the circle stencil set and some Speckled Egg Distress ink. I then stuck my pages to my journal pages, punched the holes through and added hole reinforcers as I had done with the previous pages

I will be continuing my exploration next week by combining the techniques we have learned.
