This week I am sharing a collage panel or is it assemblage... sometimes I get so confused with labels!!!  It is what it is, an MDF tag layered to MDF panel.

I know it might seem like easy talk, being such a long-time D.T. member for That's Crafty! but I truly believe their MDF surfaces are "must-haves".  They are such a reliable substrate to work on no matter what media is applied, they are always up to the task and I speak with confidence because I am one who applies multiple layers to projects.

On this project, I sneaked in a product which should arrive within the next few weeks....acrylic wax.

Instructions

Prepare both tag and panel with Gesso, by applying it randomly, it creates interesting layer of texture.  Once dry, spray Lustre sprays, allowing to drip downwards, allowing it to pool. For the tag, avoid heavy spray application on area where stamped butterfly will appear.  When this layer has dried, time to dip into the fabulous Texture Sand Paste, apply randomly, leaving to dry before applying more spray colour.

Wrap nettle yarn around bottom edge of tag before adhering tag to panel with That's Crafty! Multi-Purpose Craft Adhesive.

Stamp butterfly onto used tea bag. Adhere to tag with acrylic wax. Once dry, randomly stamp the grungy line from the Affirmation stamp set around the butterfly. Apply the smallest touches of Texture Sand Paste and only the lightest scattering of 13arts gravel, blending the butterfly image onto the tag as a whole.  Direct sprays onto the new textured areas.

Next, brush acrylic wax over the focal image.

Onto tea bag paper stained with Walnut Ink Crystals, stamp Affirmation and PaperArtsy EEA  onto a second piece, layering to tag.

Onto scraps of tea bag paper and handmade paper, spray Blackberry and Lustre Aubergine, layering above stamped butterfly.

Adhere twig to upper edge of panel, with the addition of a button, threaded with the same yarn wrapped around the tag. Tuck a feather beneath the button.

Another panel, where I decided to be free with texture. With the Wildflower stamp, I wanted to move away from an obvious nature theme, wanting to set the stamp against a textural background with the use of That's Crafty! Mediums and paint application.

Instructions

Adhere rice paper from the Mixed Media Paper/Card Kit which has been eco dyed. This brings another layer of texture and up close you can see it peeking through here and there but of course, you can skip this step and start applying paints and mediums to the MDF panel.

Apply the Texture Pastes, with palette knife, not covering the complete surface. Follow this with the various paints from That's Crafty! and the Seth Apter Frescos. Do not apply the Metallic Copper at this stage.


Onto a stained shipping tag (if you need to stain one, place tag into a tea bath, I worked with Summer Fruits which produces a red berry colour but when dry, it turns to a soft grey/blue). Stain Wildflower with Paris Dusk onto the tag, distressing the tag by tearing edges.  Layer to piece of kraft bag which has been eco dyed or you can spray with Walnut Ink. Gather found papers, fragments of denim, whatever you have to hand.

To upper right corner, ink up stamp from PaperArtsy EEA, with Tuxedo Black, stamping to create corner detail.

Finally, with the beautiful That's Crafty! Metallic Copper paint, applying with fingertips, catching the textures on the panel, adding highlights to the stamped tag,

 including dipping end of pencil into the Copper paint to mark making.

It's Wednesday again already so here I am sharing with you another MDF round project.

I used to be quite scared starting with a round substrate to work on now I just love the challenges they bring, if you've not already tried a circular base I urge you to give it a go!

What I did

After getting a design in mind and roughly choosing the areas that would be the sea background, I applied some Texture Sand Paste and using Texture Paste, (not texture sand paste), I made the fish shape, again with a stencil.

I die cut the lighthouse and painted as required. The texture sand paste was ideal for adding the rocky base for the lighthouse. 

I stamped the Captain and the big fish and coloured using watercolours. The little fishes are from the same stamp set as the Captain but are in the girl's hair. To finish I added some sparkle with diamond Stickles and sticky gems and added a wire and beads to hang.
