Don't Doubt the Strength of my Beautiful Wings by Dorthe Hansen
11:00
A new Monday and a new blog post from me, here at
That's Blogging Crafty. I hope you all had a safe and good weekend. Writing
this, it is raining and surely looks a lot like autumn already.
So what better than a little fairy tale from the
warmer countries J
The wonderful white/greyboard panel
with rounded corners, is once more what I started with for my creation. It
was painted with gesso and when dry, I sprayed with water, added Infusions
to it - some just painted onto the panel and in some places, sprinkled on to
create more colour splashes, then left to dry again.
In between I also coated the
gorgeous Toadstools with gesso, the
butterflies and wings, for the fairy. The butterflies were run through my
Big Shot inside an embossing folder, to give the butterflies more texture.
After I painted them with a little Gold paint, (I love that paint ) used the Iced Spruce on top, a little Walnut
Ink here and there and finally draw
around all of them with a fine liner, in a red brown colour - to make the form stand out, it was smeared out while still wet. The same was done with the fairy
wings !!
The panel, now dry, was stenciled
with the Dinky stencil Moc Croc on both sides, I thought it could look like
the log of a tree, growing far away from Europe, in the warm countries and butterflies on the left side. I let it dry over night and after I sprayed the top panel
and right side of the Moc Croc stenciled pattern with
Walnut Ink, while wet let it run over the page and then sprinkled the
Infusion Olive Tree, here and there and left to dry. The left side
panel, Moc Croc was hand painted also
with Walnut Ink, not letting it get out of control and drip all over, as I
wanted to keep the stenciled butterflies clean.
Time to finish the Toadstools. First
I mixed a bit of Yellow and Orange Shimmer paint, added Charcoal to it till I
achieved a soft yellow brownish tone and painted it on. On top while still
wet, I added Gold paint but only on the upper side of the hats (I could not
get a good photo of the beautiful shimmer) and I could have tried drawing
details by hand but I found the
beautiful Eclectica Stamp Set ESC05 and used the two Toadstool stamps, to stamp
over the greyboard ones. They don`t fit but with a little redrawing with a
fine liner, after the stamping had dried, it looks fine, I think. Lastly the
stenciled butterflies were also hand painted with the Gold Paint and the fine
liner, run around them and adding details.
Time to adhere it all to panel. First I used a found piece of bark, on the bottom, then some of my very loved
dyed laces - here I used the Walnut ink and also a piece of found grey moss
was adhered. On top of the panel, the Toadstools, the fairy girl with her
wings, the Butterflies and yet another piece of lace. I drew details on the
rest of the butterflies and adhered one of Lynne's Affirmations stamped onto
plain copy paper I found in my stash, also given a light brush of Walnut Ink.
Materials used
That's Crafty! Shimmer Paint - Yellow, Orange,
Charcoal
Sizzix Embossing Folder
Walnut Ink
And from my own stash - bark, dried moss, dyed lace

DeleteWhat a wonderful story board Dorthe, I had to read then read again to take in every element you described. The Moc Croc stencil was the very first stencil I brought from That's Crafty and it has to be one of my all time favourites. Your created bark looks almost like Abalone with it's delicate reflections. In true style you have created another unique master piece. I so love my Monday read. Hugs Tracey xx
