Happy by Amanda Southern

 Hi Everyone
This week I have been playing with one of the latest designer paper collections from 13arts, now I am not normally a designer paper kind of crafter but when I saw this new collection "Young & Free" with its fabulous colours and fun elements I had to have a play and that play produces this week piece to share with you.

Here's What I Did:

This weeks piece is created on the large MDF circular upright that comes in the pack of 7 circular uprights and to that I glued a piece of background paper using a sheet from the 12" pack, to get a neat edge around the pieces I lightly sanded the paper from the edges.

Next was to add some detail onto the paper and to do this I used a coordinating background stamp from  this collection and stamped using Distress Oxide. Over that I lightly brayed some Black Multi Surface That's Crafty! paint.

Next steps some stencilling, first with black Versafine Clair through the circles that are on the 'Stay Young' stencil and then added some dimension by adding some stencilling using That's Crafty! Black Texture Paste through the 'Dare to Dream' stencil, both stencils are from the 'Young & Free' collection.

Next additions to the piece, and the only pieces that aren't from this collection were some That's Crafty! Craftyboard elements, the wings and the frame. To both of the wings I coloured then using 3 colours of Distress Oxides, Mustard Seed, Candied Apple and Spiced Marmalade. The frame I also added a little brayered black paint. To the wings I also stamped the words background stamp in black. I did cut the frame down a little.

Once my background was finished I now chose my paper elements that I cut out using both images from the 12" papers and the A6 paper pad, there is also a 6" x 6" paper pad selection. So after a lot of cutting out these are the pieces I used to create my piece.

I also cut out a few stars and added those along with some pieces of thick cotton to add some textural contrast. The word "Happy" was cut from the papers. The girl which is originally in black & white was given a touch of colour using coloured pencils. I also used a heart punch to cut the heart from the designer paper.

Here's What I Used:
That's Crafty! MDF Surfaces Round Upright pack of 7 assorted
Even though I didn't use it on this project the 6" x 6" paper pad is HERE
