Material Girl by Amanda Southern

 Hi Everyone
I'm sharing with you this week a piece I have made using one of the latest new character stamps from AALL & Create designed by Janet Klein along side another of the new stamps and washi tapes all part of this latest release from AALL & Create.

I think this is a bit of a self portrait lol as I have spent a lot of lockdown really improving my sewing skills.

Here's What I Did:

My piece started with combining a couple of That's Crafty! MDF Hearts, I used size #10 (the largest) and a size #8 (the next size down). Using scraps of gelli prints I die cut small hexagons and used them to cover the hearts creating, hopefully, a faux patchwork effect, if you don't have the die you could also get a similar effect using cut squares.

You can just about see that I have started adding some subtle stamped heat embossed detail using Background Voices stamp which I stamped onto the hearts using Faded Jeans Distress Oxide and then heat embossed using matt clear embossing powder. I then stencilled through 13arts Stitches stencil using That's Crafty! Texture Paste for a little stitched dimension, I did sand it back a little once it had dried.

I then used some denim blue cotton and sandwiched between the 2 hearts which I glued together using That's Crafty! craft adhesive.

The final addition to the background was to add some pieces of torn washi tape and I used one of the new tapes called Fasteners.

Next I stamped the images from the new stamp set from Janet Klein 'Material Girl' using Versafine Clair ink pad and coloured them with coloured pencils before cutting them out and adding them to my piece.

I stamped the cotton reels and coloured the ends of the bobbins but to make them look more real and add some texture I wound actual sewing cotton around them.

Here you can see the embossing and stitch stencilling.

a couple more of the bobbins and I cut some of the fasteners out from the washi tape along with some small torn strips. The words I stamped, cut out and added an edge of vintage photo distress ink before glueing to the piece.
