 Hi Everyone
Well there's a brand new MDF storage solution available for you to build and decorate however you wish because as it's made from MDF you can throw virtually anything at it. The said storage item is the new That's Crafty! MDF Desk Tidy but to be honest you could decorate this in many styles to add that touch of storage to any room in the house.

I've given mine a Moroccan twist courtesy of some fabulous rice papers by Paper Designs.

Here's What I Did:

The MDF desk tidy goes together really easy and includes, as you can see, 3 individual storage pots of differing heights, these sit within a frame or onto the included base. You can however not use the base and use that for another project. On this set I have used both the base and the surround holder but in a slightly different way. You can decide to keep all the storage pots separate so you can move them around or you can glue them all together to create a block, on this occasion I have created the block.

I glued all the pieces together first before decorating them. Due to the translucency of rice paper I needed to paint the MDF and choose to paint them all with Sandstone Multi Surface Paint. The inside of the pots I painted in midnight blue multi surface paint to coordinate with what would be my design colours. To create a split decorated look and to be honest to also save on rice paper I wanted to add a contrast band around the front and 2 sides so measured up an inch and drew a line around. I then added 2 of the tile designs of rice papers using gel medium, to save wasting the rice paper I avoided the area's where the pots would be glued together.

In the areas below the rice paper and the backs of the pots along with the surround I painted with That's Crafty! Metallic Gold. To create the crackle effect I added a layer of That's Crafty! Crackle Glaze and allowed it to dry for about 45mins then applied a layer of the Midnight and watched the cracks appear, I never get tired of watching this happen.

The frame that the pots can sit in I used to create a floating effect this piece of MDF got the same crackle treatment and also has some smaller rice paper tiles added to it. To support this in place I used some Craftyboard Inchies and Twinchies that also had tiled rice paper added to them and I glued them in place as supports.

All is then glued to the base so the tidy is as one piece. The final touch was to run around all the edges with a gold leaf pen.

Here's What I Used:
Paper Designs Rice Paper Tiles Pack of 5 A4
That's Crafty! Multi Surface Paints - Midnight Blue & Metallic Gold
Gold Leaf Pen
Have a great week and I will see you all next Tuesday
