Be Free by Gill Humphrey

Two simple words that mean so very much - for me being free is an ability to express myself through my artworks something that I try to do each and everyday. For you it may mean something completely different but what ever it means the importance of being free to develop and grow is vital to everyone's well being.
To create this project I started by assembling the Decorative Top Upright using That's Crafty! Multi Purpose Adhesive Pen because this allows for precise application of glue. The assembled Upright was then painted with Black Gesso. Once the gesso had dried the Upright part was covered with That's Crafty! Crackle Glaze and once that was dry a layer of That's Crafty! Multi Surface Ivory Paint. I added a little stencil detail to the base using 13 Arts Ornamental Stencil and Speckled Egg Distress Oxide Spray.
The base for my decoration was formed by cutting a piece of paper 8cm x 17cm from 13 Arts On the Wall 12 x 12 Paper Collection. The edges of the paper were then inked with Milled Lavender Distress Oxide using a Ranger Blending Tool. A second piece 8.5cm x 14 cm from a of co-ordinating paper from the same collection was cut, edges inked and then mounted over the first piece using scrap cardboard for added dimension. collection. A piece of printed acetate from 13 Arts Rosalie Collection was cut to 8.5 x 14 cm and glued on top of the paper piece.
The bird and nest were fussy cut from 13 Arts A4 On the Wall Birds and the leafy frame element was cut out from 13 Arts A4 On the Wall Frames Sheet.
I took chipboard elements from 13 Arts Aqua Floral set colouring the circular elements with Milled Lavender Distress Oxide and the words Be free which were coloured with Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide.
I then added my cut elements and chipboard pieces to my Upright placing some sisal between the layers to resemble a nest.
