Today I have a piece of 'art on the round' to share that features one of Stamperia's fabulous rice papers on a That's Crafty! MDF round. The one I have used for my art on the round is Wandering Minds. I have a big love of faces (and eyes) so was instantly drawn to this one and theres no denying the face on this rice paper is a beauty. 

Although I do really love it as it is, for 'art's sake' I gave the beautiful rice paper image a 'make over'. 

I began by painting a That's Crafty 8 inch round with white gesso. Rice Paper has some transparency so I wanted the surface it was adhered to to be pale and neutral. When dry I placed the MDF round over the area of the rice paper I wanted to feature. I drew around the MDF round and then out the circle. 

I adhered and sealed the Rice Paper circle to the MDF round with collage / matte medium. 

Now it was all ready for a 'make over'! To do this I drew in a definite hair line and then painted in some hair using DecoArt Media Fluids. (You could use any medium you choose.) I coloured with Burnt Umber, Raw Umber and Black using a few different thickness of brush and working the brush in single strokes in the direction the hair would fall. 

For the rest of the facial features I worked with distress inks, using them like a watercolour paint. 

For the eye shadow I watercoloured with Mulled Lavender and then gradually built up the colour with Dusty Concord. A white pen to highlight. For me, the eye just had to be blue but only a delicate blue - tumbled glass with Broken China to gently shadow.

I went with pink for the lips, again building up the colour gradually as I'd done with the eye shadow . Spun Sugar, Victorian Velvet and Worn Lipstick -guess that one had to be included, right? Again a white pen to highlight .

In addition I added some colour to the cheeks - Tattered Rose DI and touches of gentle shadowing in and around the face and hand- Hickory Smoke DI. 

I thought about adding a sentiment but decided in the end to let the words 'This it it' be enough

 leaving the beauty of the image to take the spotlight! 

To finish off and help frame the piece I ran some black paint around the circumference of the round.
