Magic Happens by Amanda Southern

 Hi Everyone
There's lots of new things recently arrived in the shop, along with all the new things is the latest collection Arabia from Art by Marlene. This weeks piece uses one of the new stamp sets and a That's Crafty Bobble Top MDF Art Shrine.

Here's What I Did:

I started with the MDF shrine. I began by covering each piece, prior to assembly, with a sheet of one of my designer papers as I thought the colours suited the Arabian theme. When you are covering the pieces just make sure that you don't glue the paper onto the tags and edges that glue the shrine box together, I trim these off with a sharp knife after I have glued on the paper.

You can see I have also stamped onto the back piece, far easier to do all your stamping prior to glueing it all together. Using the remains of the same sheet of paper I stamped the lanterns and some of the tiles using Versamark and heat embossed them in black, I then cut them out and added a touch of colour with some colouring pencils and white pen.

I the constructed the shrine box and added my pieces to the inside.

The lantern is suspended from the roof of the box using a thin strip of acetate. I thought it needed something at the bottom so I stamped a couple of the lanterns and cut the top and bottom off them and used them to make some decorative urns.

Next to decorate the front, I had already covered this is the same paper, no idea why I didn't take a photo of it. The bobble bits sticking out I foiled by using a foil relief bond and some matt gold foil, just put the foil bond all over the area you want to foil and wait till it turns from white to clear. Once clear just rub your foil over the area you have put the bond on using the foil right side up.  I used a different brand but another of the new things in the shop is foil bond, foil relief paste and foiling sheets all that would give you the same result. I also stencilled a design on the top, using yet another new product into the shop, Rich Hobby Chrome Texture Pastes, the one I have used is White Gold.

Once the paste was dry I glued on my lanterns as though they were hanging from the top, I did extend some of the hanging chains. Next to stamp the funky owl using black Versafine Clair ink onto stamping card and colour with coloured pencils and add him into the scene. The sentiment sticker was added, again this comes from Art by Marlene's latest release as she has released yet another book of quotes.

  1. It's just fabulous - love the papers which work so well with the exotic styling of the little scene.
