Oriental Tiles - A Play With The New Stamps by Fliss Goodwin

11:00

 Hello!
I hope you're all watching the One Day Special That's Crafty! has on Hochanda at the moment and there are 2 more shows to go at 12pm and 4pm today so don't miss these for some fabulous demos from the lovely Jo and lots of samples from the Design Team which I have to say are just incredible!

Step by Step:

I decided not to use all of the sections that came with the kit as I saw a piece of artwork on Pinterest made of dominoes which greatly inspired what I made.

I created the background first by painting the MDF rectangle grey using multi surface paint. I then used the new rectangles and squares stencil and the decorative panel stencil with black, white and red multi surface paints, dabbing the colours on with a stencil brush to give a mottled effect.

I then made my tiles, using a mix of dominoes and inchies, stamping each tile with images using black ink. I heat embossed the black ink and then used Versamark ink with clear embossing powder, adding a further 3 layers to produce a ceramic tile effect.

I stamped a feather with black ink and cut this out to add to one of the patterned dominoes. I then stamped some dragonflies which I heat embossed and coloured with a mix of flat matte and lustre sprays.

I began to assemble my artwork and found that my background was not strong enough a contrast to the tiles so my thinking cap went on again and the amazing crackle glaze came to the rescue. I brushed this all over and dried it off a little (until tacky) and then brushed Christmas red multi surface paint over the top. Result - amazing crackle!

As you can see, some of the mottled colours underneath peep through giving an interesting textured effect.

I glued all my pieces in place and as Jo said on the first show yesterday, it really does make sense to add the inchies either top or bottom of the dominoes but never in the centre!
