Something to Put it All In by Rachel Harries

Today I thought I'd use the rather fabulous That's Crafty! Multi Surface Paints on some canvas. The paints can be heat set and hand washed so don't use on anything you will need to put in a washing machine, but once heat set they will withstand any spillages or showers.

First things first you need to do a bit of prep by putting a barrier in your bag to stop anything leaking through to the other side, I use some hardboard with a plastic bag over it and put it inside the bag.

Then its a ver y simple process of using the water spray and the paints, drying in-between  layers.

I then add a selection of texture and background stamps, I'm using Versafine Claire ink which I will heat set I find that it can withstand pretty much everything although I haven't put it through a washing machine.

you can also add stencilling if you wish there was so much texture in the tooth of the bag fabric I struggled to get much of an impact  but it added another layer and a bit more depth.

Next I took a scrap of calico fabric and stamp the images I wanted to use, I then ironed interfacing on the back of the fabric to stop it fraying and make it easier to appliqué, if you don't have this you can paint a layer of pva or mod podge for a similar effect.

I do a few of each design to give me extras to use in other projects, they look lovely on a journal page or anywhere else for that matter. you can paint before or after cutting, I cut mine out and then paint, I add most of the stitched details at this stage, I will add a little when I stick them to the bag but its ideal to do it now while you are dealing with small easy movable pieces. I stamp on the bag where I want the flower to act as a guide, I use good adhesive to stick the pieces in place and add some extra stitching here and there.

I hope you enjoyed this project and that you'll have some fun with these fabulously versatile Multi Surface Paints, stay safe and don't forget to check out the other posts on the blog there's a brilliant array of talent and styles amongst the designers, I'll be back next.
