Rainbow Trout! by Amanda Southern

Hi Everyone
For this weeks post I am back playing in my art journal, I have made a conscious effort to do more art journaling this year as I have a collection of art journals, of varying sizes, all on the go at the same time so I at least plan to finish one of them!!
This weeks page uses recently launched stamps by Carabelle Studio designed by Kate Crane.
Here's What I Did:
This page started, as many of mine do, with the page being previously used to clean paint from my brayer when creating previous projects.
Over the brayered paint I added extra paint smearing some turquoise and white paint around the edges blending it on with my fingers. I added the circles with a piece of polystyrene from some packaging and just dipped it into white paint, along with that as a mark making tool I also added paint to bubble wrap and stamped that onto the page.
Next was to add some stencilled details in black and magenta using Carabelle stencils and a little stamping in the blue, I had to add some numbers as I seem to be drawn to adding numbers into my projects these are from Tim's new faded type set. There are also mark makings using turquoise paint and an old credit card.
Now to add more black and white details using both the Carabelle stencil and making black paint rings using 2 different sizes of lids, also the little touches of crosses that were stamped on.
The final touches to the background were a little more number stamping in the pink cosmos and some pen work using both a black and a white pen. I have also stamped my cat image which I will piece over.
Onto mixed media card, you could also use water colour card, I stamped the cat and I repeatedly stamped the fish as I needed 14 of them. I then coloured the images using Zig real colour pens which are water colour so blend together along with the help of a water brush. Then came all the cutting out before adding them to my page.
Before sticking the cat over the previously stamped image I grounded it using some torn pieces of washi tape and added over the washi tape a 13arts stitched effect sticker which are on clear adhesive so it gives you a fabulous faux stitched effect onto your project.
I then glued pieces of heavy cotton thread down the page that I hung my fish from (rainbow trout), I left the threads hanging from the top of the page.
Last thing was to add my words which I took from the Art by Marlene sticker book 2, the words 'rainbow trout' I typed out and added to the sticker words.
Here's What I Used:

It was already beautiful just with the leftover brayered paint! But it becomes even more irresistible as the stencilling, stamping and mark-making gets layered on, and then those dangling fish are just fabulous. Good luck with trying to complete at least one of your many journals on the go... I know the feeling!

Love your rainbow trout - the colours just sing.
ReplyDeleteAmazing detail as always Amanda. The layered background is fabulous and love the rainbow fish. The cat looks so cute and as if he can't believe his luck!
