Natures Gatherings An ATC Cabinet Decorated by Gill Humphrey

Have you a collection of ATC's that need a home? then the versatile two draw cabinet designed by Rachel Harries may be just the answer. Made using the That's Crafty! MDF Cabinet which is easily constructed, super strong and totally customisable my piece today also features two of the newest stamps sets by Lynne Moncrieff; Natures Gatherings 2 and Scribbled Words 1.

I started by constructing the cabinet - the pack contains easy to follow step by step instructions - using my glue of choice the Multi Purpose Glue by That's Crafty! and then used one of my go to techniques to colour it. I painted Chestnut Brown Multi Surface over the entire outside of the cabinet and once dried added a layer of Crackle Glaze and finally once the glaze had dried added Yellow Multi Surface Paint to get the weathered wood effect that I love.

To make the paper elements I started with an A3 piece of cartridge paper and then added layers of stencilling using  the new Dinky stencils: Brick, Circles and Feather. I chose to keep my palette of colours restricted to a neutral one and used Antique LinenTea Dye and Frayed Burlap Distress Oxides.

I then overstamped using first, second and third generation images the stenciled background with several of the stamps in the Scribbed Words stamp set lining up the circular stamp with some of the stenciled circles. I chose Vintage Photo and Gathered Twigs Distress Oxides for this layer keeping to my neutral colour palette.

I cut panels from my master sheet slightly smaller than the sides and top of the cabinet and then added focal images using the birds and words from the stamp set. I dragged the darker brown ink around the sides of each panel to frame them before adhering in place as shown.

To decorate the fronts of the draws I cut, stamped and edged more paper from my master board this time cutting it so it was just smaller than the size of the MDF ATCs. The decorated paper was then added to the MDF piece and this was then applied to the draws.

I thoroughly enjoyed creating this piece and will almost certainly be making more of these cabinets as I think they will make super gifts that can be decorated to suit any style.
