Around The World by Gill Humphrey

This week I have another MDF Shadow Box make, this time featuring Around the World and the Eiffel tower from Oh  La La collections by Stamperia. I chose the rounded top box from the set of 4 and constructed it with Express Glue. Once the glue had dried I then painted the outside of the tag with Indian Turquoise paint leaving it to dry before applying Crackle Glaze. Once the Crackle Glaze had dried I then painted on Milk White Allegro paint and let it crackle on its own. To age the surface I then dragged over some Gathered Twigs Distress Oxide ink.

Whilst the paint/crackle was drying I prepared my elements for the box - I used Amazing Casting Resin to make the Eiffel Tower from the mould of the same name and then the remaining elements from the Train soft mould. The resin pieces were all coated with Bonding Primer before painting. The Eiffel Tower was painted with Earth Brown from the Rust Paint Effect Set before adding a metallic black wax to highlight the details - you could use the Daily Art Black Pearl for this. For the suitcase I then used Chocolate, Cookie and Mahogany Allegro paints and then added some Rich Copper wax to bring out the details. The ticket was painted with Milk White and then distressed with Umber Antiquing Gel.

The skin on the man was painted with Doll Pink, the suitcase and shoes with Cookie and the coat with Dark Grey before distressing with Umber Antiquing Gel and then wiping back with a wet baby wipe so that some of the grey paint also lifted fiving the suit a distressed appearance.

The word plaque was painted with Earth Brown and then had Copper and Blue metallic waxes added to highlight the words.

The inside of the shadow box was then lined with paper from the 8 x 8 Around the World paper pack before layering in the resin elements along with balloons and watch from the ephemera pack and paper elements cut from the paper pack. I chose to add the man onto the side of the frame rather than into the body of the shadow box and finally added a plane from the ephemera pack.
