Grungy Tags With Leaves by Lynne Moncrieff

Hello

Recently, I shared a Tag Book where I incorporated grungy shipping tags with the aid of the fabulous That's Crafty! Walnut Ink Crystals. At the time I said I would return to the tag pages, to work on them.

In this post, I am sharing two of the tags. To view photos/instructions for how I like to get a grungy tag, then please refer to that particular blog post,  I am only sharing the additions to the tags.

Instructions

For the leaves, I lightly tapped the Distress Inks onto the Carved Leaves stamps, focusing the ink on the edge of the stamp only before stamping onto cotton rag/watercolour paper. The impression at this stage is very faint. With a watercolour brush, dipping into the Flat Matte Sprays, painting the stamped leaf, creating a watercolour effect. The stamped leaves are then fussy cut. (I shared my way for painting the stamped leaves on Instagram/FaceBook page at the time of the release of the Carved Leaves stamps).

Once dry, applying Liquid Acrylic Wax to each leaf. There is no guarantee but you can see the crackle effect, achieved with the layers of Liquid Acrylic Wax.

Allowing this layer to dry, again with a soft paintbrush, applying the Pearl Inks, only adding mere touches here and there of the Pearl Inks to the leaves. Then, a second application of  Liquid Acrylic Wax as I was curious to see the reaction of the Liquid Wax after the application of the Pearl Ink.

Laying the leaves aside for the moment, time to gather scrappy papers and tearing pieces from a sheet of Dina Wakley Collage Papers: Backgrounds.  To some papers, including the Dina Wakley tissue paper, Liquid Acrylic Wax was applied, I love the effect achieved from applying the Liquid Acrylic Wax.

Once all the paper fragments were dry, time to take everything to the sewing machine where I formed the layout of each tag as I machine stitched.  The stamped leaves were anchored in place with the  stitching at the bottom of the stem, so only touches of That's Crafty! Multi-Purpose Craft Adhesive applied to the rear of the leaves to ensure good adhesion.

Selecting a stamp from PaperArtsy EAB04, stamping onto handmade paper with Jet Black ink, layering to bottom edge of each tag

before distressing edges of tags by abrading with scissors

and applying Pearl Ink Tree Bark. Other touches of Bronze and Antique Gold Pearl Inks were swiped randomly onto the face of the grungy tags.

Thank you for your visit.
