That's Crafty!

It's Donna here today and I'm absolutely thrilled to have been able to have a play with some brand new stamps from a brand new designer for That's Crafty!......the lovely and wonderfully talented Magda Polakow...how cool is that?! She has designed 4 stamp sets and for today I'm using Leni the Llama on an MDF round.

What I Did:

I used the smallest MDF round for this and I must say I have a new addiction now after using it....be prepared to see far more of them!! I coated it in a shade of blue That's Crafty! Multi Surface Paint and because it covers everything you don't really need a coat of Gesso first.

When that was dry I then applied some beautiful Orange Multi Surface Paint with my fingers, messy but fun! I wanted to achieve a warm background to compliment the theme of the stamps.

I added some interest to the background with one of my hand carved stamps, a little bit of doodling and I stamped the banner from the Leni set directly onto the background and coloured it in with some Posca pens.

Leni, the Cacti and the 'road' were stamped directly onto Strathmore Mixed Media Paper with black Archival ink and then coloured in with a mixture of Mermaid Markers which were diluted with a water brush.

I then fussy cut the stamped images out and adhered them to the MDF round, trimming anything that overhung the circular shape.

The finishing touches were to add a Tim Holtz metallic sticker and add some Bakers Twine for hanging it with the pre drilled holes.

I just adore Leni the Llama, isn't he just the sweetest creature you've ever seen ;)

Hello crafters, it's Fliss here today with another of the amazing That's Crafty! Chunkies and in this case it's had almost everything but the kitchen sink thrown at it and it stood the test so well that I think this will be my favourite mixed media surface. Apologies in advance for the long supplies list which does seem to have everything but the kitchen sink!

Step by Step

The first thing I did was to assemble my 8 x 8 Chunkie as I was planning to add lots of layers and textures to the background so sticking it together first avoids any gluing problems that might happen otherwise.

I brushed a coat of white gesso all over and then used the flourish stencil with white texture paste to add a pattern in opposite corners. Once it was dry, I then brushed purple multi surface paint all over.

My next layer was crackle glaze on just the front, which I brushed roughly over. Once it was dry, I coated it with lavender multi surface paint and left it for the crackle to appear.

I then set about making my embellishments starting with the heart which I made by cutting a piece of mixed media paper and creating the pattern with a heart stencil using texture paste. I painted this with light pink multi surface paint when it was dry. I cut the heart shape out swiped on Wilted Violet Oxide ink to add interest.

I next took a couple of the white/greyboard matches for my stamps and painted these with Light Pink and Light Blue Multi Surface Paints, smearing Purple around the outside. I then stamped on the matching image using VersaFine Imperial Purple ink. I did this by attaching the stamp to an acrylic block then pressed the painted side of the matching shape down onto the stamp, pressing lightly to transfer the ink. I heat embossed the images with clear powder.

I added detail to my flowers with oxide inks, using Wilted Violet and Broken China to pick out areas, applying the inks with a paintbrush and by swirling with the brush, you get a lovely soft effect over the top of the paint under layer.

I painted some white paper flowers with the same pastel paints, brushing a little purple round the edges to make them pop. I then took some greyboard butterflies and painted these with light blue multi surface paint. I added details with the same oxide inks and found if you swipe the paintbrush gently across the ink and then apply in light strokes to the painted surface, you can achieve a pretty feathered effect.

I next painted a white/greyboard leafy sprig match with Mint and Lime Multi Surface Paints, stamping and heat embossing as before and adding detail with the Wilted Violet Oxide ink.

I then assembled my panel as you see using 3D glue and adding some metal buttons and pearls to bring the flowers to life. I finished off with a white/greyboard plaque painted light blue, then stamped with the purple ink and heat embossed, adding the tiny butterfly in the corner.

There you have it and I hope you managed to stick through to the end. It was quite a bit of work but I hope you'll agree it was worth it.

Thursday's here again, time to share some That's Crafty! Creativity!

There has been so many marvellous makes using Kraft Card online recently

it reminded me of a project I started last December and never quite finished.

Here's those abandoned elements and what became of them..

Stippling three different colours of paint through a stencil onto Kraft Card

I placed both card and stencil still together through an embossing machine.

Onto gesso'd card painted with Pink Shimmer I stamped and

embossed lots of roses, cut each one out and scrunched them up.

The ribbon was stamped onto a strip of gesso'd kraft card and painted in

Pink Shimmer. Glued onto a piece of lace, the strip is sewn onto the background.

The edges of the background have been machine sewn and torn down

to the size of a postcard. A sentiment stamped onto the stained paper of a

used teabag (it's so on trend!!) was also sewn onto the card.

Layering up those scrunched up flowers, stamped Kraft card leaves add

to those layers along with a gem stones and a button.

With the background glued onto a sturdy greyboard Postcard

it makes an alternative way to display or give as a gift.

Hi Everyone

I have a card for you this week that uses up some of the scraps that we all cut off from the backgrounds that we make.

I tend to create my gelli prints on A4 card which often means I end up cutting them down to fit a particular project which means I am left with strips of gelli prints that I just collect in a box. So for this card I rummaged through that box to put together some strips that now make a new background.

Here's what I did:

As I said I used some cut off strips from previous gelli print projects and put together a collection of those strips to create a new background. I decided on the order of the strips and then glued them onto a piece of this card and then trimmed it to the size I needed for this project.

Using a selection of Tracy Scott's stamps for PaperArtsy I then used a Stamping Platform to stamp each element with black Archival ink, paint them with a selection of PaperArtsy paints, whilst leaving it in the Stamping Platform, and then stamping over the painted image again to put back in the stamped detail. This I repeated several times until all my elements were stamped and painted. To add further detail I stamped the scribble stamp using paint and roughly smeared the same colour paint around the edges and added a touch of red paint.

The final step to frame all this was to run around the edges of the background with a couple of rows of machine stitching. The sentiment I added are stamped words from a Carabelle Studio stamp designed by Birgit Koopsen.

I then layered that up on to a background of white card that I had repeat stamped the scribble stamp which created another layer on the card. It was all then mounted onto black card and added to an 8" x 8" card blank.
