Today I am sharing an altered, "rusted" bottle.

This was made for Somerset Studio (Mar/April 2018 issue) a submission for an Art Call focusing on rusting methods/techniques. It appears alongside another "rusted" bottle. The two bottles side by side - the younger woman and the older woman, who are the same person at different stages of her life.  She is looking back on her life, "unraveling the layers of her life" the rust representing age and the layers are evident on both bottles with the torn edges of the lace and silk sari ribbon representing fragility of life and how we can feel torn and tattered at times.

Attached to the second bottle, the stamped words, "Many Years Later, Into A Memory" (PaperArtsy ESN stamps). This is the older woman, reflecting on memories of her younger self and how quickly time slips through all our fingertips.

Instructions
The bottle can be prepared with clear Gesso or simply skip that prep and begin to apply the Rust Finish.  I like to use a really old, scrubby brush with stiff, matted bristles, I've discovered it provides the texture I want from the Rust Finish Kit. 


I also applied the Rust Finish Kit to a That's Crafty! MDF heart, which once dry, applied Titanium White Fluid Acrylic, edging the heart with Sharpie white paint pen. The Rust Finish was also applied to metal bezel and various pieces of vintage crochet lace.

One of the faces, from the PaperArtsy EEA set, was stamped onto vintage book text, torn and layered with more old paper, resting in the bezel.  This focal was layered, with pieces of the "rusted" crochet lace, to the front of the bottle.

Re-cycled Silk Sari Ribbon, wrapped around the neck and top of the bottle, you can see that the screw top lid was also "rusted". Rusted tin wire was then wrapped around the sari ribbon, topped with a vintage button.

An Affirmation was partially stamped onto a piece of book paper (I wiped on/wiped off some Rust Finish onto two pieces of book paper) before adhering to the ends of the silk ribbon, fraying the edges of the silk ribbon and to embellish, a scrap of crochet lace.

The same Affirmation, stamped in full, onto the second piece of prepared book paper, was adhered to bottom edge of bottle
