That's Crafty!

Sometimes we can overlook what were favourite items because our head is turned by newer ones. This has happened to me with the arrival of That’s Crafty Uprights! I decided it was time to play with some of my older favourite substrates, so I used one of the white/greyboard hearts.

Initially I thought of a Valentine related project but I was keen to ink up some new PaperArtsy Lynne Perrella Collecton stamps.

Extras:- Mop-up and under papers, calico, Prima Velveteen Flower (from Relics & Artifacts range), vintage button, corrugated cardboard, black thread

Instructions

After applying Gesso to heart, apply The Sage and Violet Storms Infusions, misting generously with water. Leave to dry naturally. When dry, partially ink up the main focal stamp (from LPC03), stamping the decorative heart element, repeatedly onto the substrate. Lay aside.

I always have under paper when working on projects, this is what I stamped the focal onto. Stamp the decorative edge from the largest stamp from the LPC037 set. Layer to the heart with scraps of painted corrugated cardboard, Infusions stained calico and mop up paper.

Stamp text from EAA04 onto another piece of under paper. Tear into two small pieces. Layer to the focal image, adding a button to one piece.

Embellish focal stamp with a velveteen flower.

Hi everyone,

Donna here today with some of my favourite house stamps.

What to do:

Use the 6x6 Gelli plate to randomly brayer on some DecoArt paints, then pull the print using a good quality white paper, set aside to dry. Trim to fit 6x6 card stock.

When I looked at the print afterwards, I thought it looked like shadowy house shapes in the background so that’s when I reached for the Rubber Dance house set as I thought it would go perfectly with it!

Stamp them with black Archival ink and colour them slightly with an orange shade of Distress marker. Stamp the little stars that come with the textured Flower set, in grey Archival ink. The tree branches are my own which were stamped in black Archival.

Mount onto black card and then white cardstock, adding a Tim Holtz sentiment as a finishing touch.

There you have an atmospheric card made with a completely random Gelli print ;)

Recipe:

Apply paint to the journal page using an old store card – I used the PaperArtsy paints for this step, adding paints randomly until the page was roughly covered.

Use the bubble wrap stencil with the modelling paste to add a random pattern to the page. Allow the paste to dry, then put the stencil back over the raised areas and paint with the magenta DecoArt acrylic.

Paint 3 tags with chartreuse paint and apply a pattern using the darker green paints with the floral stencil. Stamp a quote on one tag with the green Archival ink. Stencil ‘live’ on another with the magenta paint, When the paint is dry, doodle on the words with the green marker and outline the letters too.

Stamp the flower from the Fleur set and the large leaf design from the Fern set on stamping paper and paint with pink and green paints. Cut the images out and add them to the third tag with foam tape.

Finish off the page by adding the tags tied with baker twine. You’ll see that I reversed the central tag to add extra interest (if you want to do this, make sure you turn the tag before adding the flower!)

I have been a little obsessed with painting rust recently! The new PaperArtsy/Seth Apter limited edition paints are just perfect this.

TAG

I began by painting the MDF upright with Mud Splat using a wide brush and vertical brushstrokes. Once dry I did the same with Green Patina ensuring, this time, that I did not completely cover the base colour. I find the less you think about this the better – just go for it – most of it is covered up anyway. Some background stamping was added using one of Lin Brown’s PaperArtsy stamp sets (ELB 29) and a cracks stamp from my stash.

RECTANGLE

I had a small piece of greyboard left from a previous project on my desk that I had painted with DecoArt Crackle Paint. I wasn’t sure if adding more colour would cover the crackles but it didn’t. I added some Terracotta, Mahogany, Mud Splat, Buff and Green Patina to give it a worn look. To give it a rusty appearance around the edges I added Little Black Dress with my finger followed by Mahogany and Smoked Paprika.

RUSTY BORDERS

For the rusty edges to the tag I tore some card and added some DecoArt Texture Sand paste. Once dry I added Little Black Dress. It is then just about building up colour using Mahogany, Terracotta, Smoked Paprika and Black, sometimes dry brushing and other times allowing some watered down colour to pool in the texture. You can see how I do this in this video:

HEART

I followed a similar rusting process on the MDF heart but this time I prepped it with some Grunge Paste – applying unevenly with my finger. Once dry I added the same combination of colours as above.

The little flower on the heart is a tiny cheap metal embellishment - I added a little black and Green Patina paint.

Here's what I did...

If you're like me, and you have a boxful of backgrounds and Gelli Plate prints, it's very easy to make quick and easy cards, with just a couple of contrasting backgrounds, and some stamps.

For the background of my first card, I'd applied Distress inks direct to a stencil, spritzed with water, then laid it face down onto white card. Then I took a secondary print, and this is what I've used here.

Then using the Primitive Icons hearts border, I stamped a little row of hearts. I then stamped Dina's scribbly bird, perched on the hearts. I stamped the bird again, onto a Gelli Plate print, cut out his body, then adhered him on top of the bird on the background.

I popped some washi tape below the hearts, stamped the quotes, added a little black gem to the bird's eye, then finished off by matting onto black card and a white card blank. Simples!
