That's Crafty!

I have a birthday card to share with you today that I made recently for my youngest niece. Sometimes I love making something that leaves a good proportion of white space and this is one of those makes.

Here’s what I did:-

Starting with a piece of inkable white card, I stamped the image of Alice and as I wanted to build the background up I masked her off using masking gum.

I then stamped the white rabbit behind her, carefully lining him up using a stamp positioner, I then masked off the white rabbit again using the gum. I then added the stencilled background lightly stencilling with Distress ink.

Once the Distress ink had totally dried I then rubbed off the masking gum to reveal the stamped images which I then coloured using Spectrum Noir Pencils.

To finish I added the stamped hearts, you can’t have Alice in Wonderland without red hearts, again coloured with Spectrum Noir Pencils. I have added a little bit of sparkle to them using Distress Stickles.

I then stamped the sentiment and matted onto red card and then onto an 8’ x 8’ card blank.

So to be honest this is not a new make, I started it quite some time ago one afternoon with a group of crafty friends and I just completed it. We were inspired by an article in a magazine but unfortunately I do not know now who was the original author, my apologies. That person had created a similar canvas with a night theme but I went for a rainy summer day – so about right on target I think for this summer. It of course uses one of my favourite things Ten Seconds Studio metals.

Adhere metal to Grungepaper or card to ensure some rigidity to the embossing. Cut out the house shapes in different sizes but so that there are the right number to cover the 12 inches of the base of the canvas. Run the cut metal pieces through various embossing folders and sand the pattern off.

Paint the canvas using your choice of colours, as I said I wanted a rainy blue feel, but it would work with a yellow sunshine feel, or night time or snowy for Christmas. Go over the canvas with shades of the paint and Dinky Stencils.

Finally stick the houses to your canvas and embellish with whatever you have to hand.

Instructions

Prepare surfaces. Apply Gesso to MDF tag and bezels, followed by applying Grunge Paste to the tag and with fingertips, to the Figurehead. Next step is to apply Frescos to the tag and bezels and the Frank Garcia powders to the Figurehead. Leave all to dry.

Stamp script stamp from LPC032 onto the tag. Begin to create the focal for the pendant with the bezels, tag and Figurehead. Attach jump rings, pearls and chain and dangling from the bottom of the tag, a word key.

Hi everyone,

Donna here today with a gorgeous little Katzelkraft birdie for you.

What to do:

Take a piece of PaperArtsy Smoothy Paper and randomly stamp the Visible Image circle stamp in 3 different colour inks.

Now, I bet you can’t guess where the black ‘silhouette building’ type image at the bottom of the card has been taken from can you? Well it’s actually from the top of a page of the Tim Holtz’s Small Talk Sticker Book! When I finished a page of the sentiments I thought “oh that looks like buildings” so of course that was used! As it’s sticky it adheres nicely to the paper.

Stamp the bird onto a scrap of Gelli print paper and fussy cut out and perch on to another piece of the ‘building’ shape then add the Tim Holtz sentiment, add a little bit of bling to the birds tail.

Mount onto coloured card and then white cardstock and there you have a use for bits and pieces you would normally just throw away ;)

Hi there, I have another of the ATCs I made for the last Hochanda shows to share this week as I found myself in need of a little encouragement this week having finished my current job and I’m starting a new one next week so I’m feeling rather nervous at the moment. My ATC is a sort of note to self!

Recipe:

Paint the ATC using the red paint, adding a second coat if necessary. Use the stencils with the black and white paints to apply a pattern in diagonally opposite corners using the 2 stencils.

Stamp the bird on white card with the black ink – you could go for a 3D look if you like and if so you’ll need to stamp the bird twice. Colour with markers or pencils and cut the bird out with the matching die.

Swipe a little gesso over the background with a dry sponge to tone the colour down a little and then run black paint around the edges to pull the background together.

Glue the bird to the background and add your chosen text underneath.
