Merry Christmas by Gill Humphrey

The base for my make this week is an 8" circular canvas frame but an MDF base would work just as well although it would need a coat of Primer Paste before moving to the next steps.  As I used a canvas I could just add my rice papers directly onto the canvas. I used Matte Decoupage Glue and Varnish to add pieces taken from two different rice papers - Texture and Wood Pattern making sure I had added the decoupage glue over the top to protect the papers. Once the glue had dried I then used Cracking Paste Primer followed by Cracking Paste to link the papers together. By varying the thickness of the paste you get different sizes of crackles.

My next step was to cast the Train from the Santa Claus mould with Amazing Casting Resin. Once the resin had set I coated the pieces with Bonding Primer before painting with Hunter Green, Cardinal Red, Milk White and Prussian Blue acrylic paint. I let the paint dry and then gave everything a light coat of Fluid Gloss which gives the pieces a beautiful shiny finish and also protects them at the same time. Once the fluid gloss had dried the pieces were coated with Vintage Antiquing Paste and then wiped back with a cloth to reveal the details of the moulded pieces. Finally I added some Gold Metallic Wax to highlight the surface detail.

The stamps were created using Letters and Stamps mould and painted with the green red and milk white paitns before distressing in the same way as the train.

The Poinsettia and greenery elements from the Poinsettia Mould using Amazing Casting Resin. Once the resin had set I coated the pieces with Bonding Primer before painting with Hunter Green and Cardinal Red acrylic paints for the poinsetta and then a little Milk White for the berries. I let the paint dry and then gave everything a light coat of Fluid Gloss which gives the pieces a beautiful shiny finish and also protects them at the same time. Once the fluid gloss had dried I painted over the pieces with White Antiquing Gel and wiped back the excess to reveal the details and give a snowy effect. A little gold wax was then added to highlight the details.

Having created the embellishments I added some elements cut from the Classic Christmas 6 x 6 papers and also some decorative chips from Christmas Garland set coloured with gold metallic wax adhering everything in place with Matte Heavy Body Gel. Finally I mixed Green and Red Glamour Sparkles and sprinkled this over Express Glue which is so easy to control with its nozzle applicator.

I have to say that I think the effort of painting all of the elements paid off as I love how the finished piece looks.

  1. This is truly a wonderful creation. I will probably have to search for the moulds, but I love to try it
