Entomology Box by Rachel Harries

This weeks post is drawn from the amazing stamps That's Crafty! created with Kelly O' Gormans art work and I've only used three of the many details that would all work perfectly individually. I start off by stamping the Insect House Stamp twice.

I wasn't too worried about getting a perfect image as there are only a few elements I want to cut from from it. I colour the parts of the image I want to use, you can use whatever elements you like I find That's Crafty! Flat Matt Sprays a really lovely medium to paint with. I then cut my images out omitting some of the details for the second layers.

I pop my bugs to one side and work on my display box which is one of the fabulous Shadow Tags that I cannot recommend enough they are so versatile and amazing value for money.

I cover the base of my tag with Craft O'clock Rays of Sunshine paper being mindful not to get adhesive near the holes as this might cause the MDF to swell in that area and then make it difficult to put together. I flip it over when the paper is adhered and use my craft knife in the holes to cut the slots. I then use some sandpaper to smooth around the edges to give a nice finish.

While the paper has a lovely design I want to add more depth to it so I take a brayer and apply just a little Multi Surface Paint.

I also add a little bit of stamping with the text stamp from That's Crafty! Textures Stamps No 3

I add the sides to my shadow tag and use the same papers to cover them and a little ivory multi surface paint around the edge.

I then add my bugs in the two layers to give them dimension you could use a piece of foam, cardboard, foam tape, whatever you are comfortable using.

I then take a strip of calico and use the Katzelkraft Numbers Stamp and stamp in a few different inks with a few of the stamps, I then fold a small piece of cardstock over the end of the fabric and add an eyelet with a little piece of twine for added interest. I stick these under the bugs to look like little labels.

I hope you've enjoyed this post as much as I've enjoyed putting it together. This will be my last blog post for That's Crafty! as I'm off to pastures new, Its been an absolute pleasure, thank you for reading my posts and don't forget there are regular posts on here from all the extremely talented Design Team so you are never short of inspiration and the That's Crafty!
