See Possibility Everywhere by Gill Humphrey

We may not be able to visit the sea or lucky enough to live close by but we can but dream. There is something about the sea that acts as a great destressor - maybe it's the fresh air or the sound of crashing waves - for now we are having to be satisfied by using our imaginations and the new products by That's crafty are just perfect for this.

I took a 10" x 16" canvas and primed it with That's Crafty! White Gesso before adding a wash of That's Crafty! Multi Surface Paints in Ocean, Teal and Light Blue for the water and Buttercup and Mustard Yellow for the sand. Whilst the paints were still wet I scattered rock salt over the water area as this allows the paint to pool in a way that resembles bubbles.

I used Distress inks in shades of blue and green  through the That's Crafty! Mask Fishy Seaweed to add sea weed at the interface between sea and sand and fish to the sea.

I then stamped images from the That's Crafty! Bubbles and Flowers Stamp Set on to rice paper and coloured the images with with a mix of Green and Mustard Yellow paints to create variation in the leaf colours. The rocks were coloured with That's Crafty! Chestnut Brown Paint mixed in with some of the Mustard Yellow.

The rice paper images were then adhered to the background using That's Crafty! Multi Purpose AdhesiveI added some stamped bubbles as rocks to the foreground.

I coloured the fish from the That's Crafty! Fish Craftyboard using That's Crafty! Blue Pearl Shimmer Ink and some of the weed shapes from the same board set with That's Crafty! Green paint before adding a layer of That's Crafty! Acrylic Wax.

I then raided my stash of sea shells and also Prima Art Stones and adhered these in place using 13Arts Gel Medium before adding a Tim Holtz word chip.

  1. Really gorgeous underwater scene Gill. Love the textures on your canvas and the rice paper is a great way to add the seaweed elements.
