Some Funky Poppies by Fliss Goodwin

Hello!

I have a rather bright and funky piece of artwork to share this week, actually my favourite of the samples I created for the March One Day Special That's Crafty! had on Hochanda.

What I Did:

I first gave the plaque which is made from MDF a coat of white gesso. I then painted the top half yellow and the bottom half Lime using Multi Surface Paints.

I then went to town on the background with the fab new Dotty stencil using Multi Surface Paints in shades of Yellow and Orange at the top and shades of Green and Blue at the bottom, repeat stencilling for a multi layered look which gives an overall textured effect which I thought went well with the circular background on Melina's gorgeous poppy collage stamp.

I stamped the poppy collage directly on the background with black ink and heat embossed the image with clear powder. I then stamped it several more times on cartridge paper, again heat embossing and coloured just the poppy images with Orange and Saffron Flat Matte Sprays.

I next stamped the separate circular background image a couple of times on either side of the main stamped image, heat embossing with clear powder. I coloured the circles and the stalk and leaves with Zig markers, using colours which toned with the background.

I cut out 2 stalks with leaves and 5 poppy heads from my extra stamped images and glued these in place on the background after shaping the poppies with a large embossing ball tool.

I felt the plaque needed a little extra something so I made my own washi tape by stamping the circular image on spray overflow paper, adding a few strips to ground the poppies.
