Magic Spell by Liz Wheeler

Happy Monday That's Crafty Creatives!

Today's project is a Magic Spell journal made with my Journal It Templates Set 1 and the fabulous Vintage Library Collection from Stamperia.

I started by tracing round the small book cover template (no. 5) onto white card and cutting out. I scored the spine lines and glued a strip of Tyvek paper over it to strengthen.

To decorate the spine I spread a thick layer of Rich Hobby Titanium Paste Stone Gray and let it set for a few minutes. I then pressed the reverse side of the Vintage Library Books mould into the paste to create a debossed impression. I let it dry naturally then added a page of 8x8 Vintage Library paper to the front, back and inside covers with That's Crafty! Multi Purpose Glue, trimming down to size.

To create the hidden binding mechanism I cut three strips of card measuring 5 1/4 inches x 5/8 inch, 5 1/4 x 7/8 inch, and 5 1/4 x 1 1/8 inch. The first piece I scored along the short edge at 1/4 inch and 3/8 inch, the second piece scored at 1/4 inch and 5/8 inch and the final piece scored at 1/4 inch and 7/8 inch. I folded up the score lines to create 3 hinges. I glued the middle sections of each hinge on top of each other with the smallest being on top. I glued the hinge stack in the centre of the spine approx. 1/4 inch from the bottom.

For the pocket pages of the journal I drew round the inner page template (no. 7) six times onto card, cut out and folded in half. I added a fine line of glue along the two long sides and along one short edge at the bottom. The double page was then positioned along one of the hinges gluing the pages on either side of the hinge to create a top loading pocket.

I decorated the inner pocket pages with the Vintage Library Backgrounds paper and added two pockets made from the small pocket template (no. 9), adding a tag (no. 3) and double fold journalling card (no. 8). For the pocket page insert I used the large double-fold journalling card (no 4), trimming it approximately 1/4 inch from the edge. I edges around all the pages, inserts, tags and cover with Vintage Photo Distress Oxide.

To finish I used elements from the Vintage Library Collectables book. Layering up with offcuts of mountboard.

I loved making this book, and I love the Vintage Library collection so much.

Happy Crafting!
