Happy Days by Gill Humphrey

My make for this week is a portrait album made with tow 5 by 7" canvas panels linked with canvas cloth cut 3" wide by 9" tall with the outer 1/2" of the long side used to attach to the inside front and back canvases. The top and bottom 1" was folded over to neaten the edge and then the whole of the inside covered with paper. For the album I have used papers from the Welcome Home Collection mixing and matching between the 12 and 8 inch paper pads.

For the inside front and back covers I created pockets. To do these I cut squares of paper 12.5cm square and then cut a corner off one side by cutting from one top edge to 6cm. To attach these panels I cut a strip of paper 12.5cm high by 2" wide and scored at 1/2, 1" and 11/2" to create a concertina piece that was adhered to the long edge of the panel and did the same with a 6cm piece for the opposite side. The panel was then adhered in place on the cover with the bottom edge directly glued to the canvas. Into the pocket I have tucked a trifold piece of card - this was created by cutting A4 card stock to 15.5cm high and then scoring at 12.5 and 25 cm giving two big panels for photos and a smaller flap which was corner rounded. Papers were adhered to the front, back and the small flap leaving the inside plain to add what ever you want to. The trifold piece is held closed with a belly band decorated with a piece from the 12 x 12 papers.

For the inside insert I took two pieces of white card stock 16.5cm high and scored at 12.5 and 25cm as for the trifold but did not round the corners. I then took a piece of card 16.5cm by 25cm scored at 12.5 cm. To assemble the single insert I glued one of the bigger pieces to one side of the smaller piece being careful to only add glue on 3 sides so I created a pocket and then repeated on the other side of the smaller piece.

I  took a piece of paper from the 12" paper collection and then used this to cover the insert in one go as this reinforces the area of the spine.  The front and back of the insert were decorated with more papers from the 12" paper collection. adhered to create a pocket into which I slipped a small piece of white card for notes or photos.

I layered papers on the inside of each of the pages BEFORE adhering down the small flaps to create a pocket as shown above. Into the pockets created when I adhered the three elements together I slipped cards created by cutting paper to 12.5cm high by 20cm wide scored at 10cm. You will need a total of 4 of these. The fronts of the smaller cards were then decorated with papers. before tucking them into the pockets.

The inside back cover is the opposite of the inside front cover

Through out the album I have used Die Cut Ephemera, and Decorative Chips to decorate the pages and pockets.

For the front cover I added strips of paper, an ephemera door and house and flowers. To secure the album I added some thick embroidery cotton behind a clock cast with Amazing Casting Resin and the clocks mould. The cast piece was primed with gesso and painted with Old Ivory with details picked out with Brick Red and Garden Green Allegro paints.

The back of the album was decorated with more ephemera pieces again sandwiching in another piece of embroidery cotton. Finally I added interest to the canvas cover as I felt it looked too clean - to do this I used the text stamp set and the wall from the birds stamp set that go with the collection. I mixed the stamping up using Coffee and Broken China inks with first, second and third generation stamping. Finally I attached my insert using embroidery cotton wound round the spine and center of the booklet three times before knotting off and adding some ephemera flowers over the knot to keep it secure.
