Oooooooh, I love a good film song, and this is one of the greats. It’s also the inspiration for this bright and breezy tag note book.

The first thing I did was to make the buttons. Using That’s Crafty! Textures stamp set 3, I stamped 8 large and 7 small buttons onto white cardstock. I coloured them using Flat Matte Sprays as inks, then applied Glossy Accents and set aside to dry.

For the front cover I started by using That’s Crafty! Light Texture Paste through the Honeycomb Circles stencil on a greyboard #10 tag. Once dried, I gave it a coat of white gesso and 2 coats of Teal Multi Surface Paint. I also painted the edges on the other side of this tag, and 1cm of both sides of another tag. I then dry brushed some white gesso over the top of the texture paste, replaced the stencil, and added a touch of Peacock Feathers Distress ink to emphasis the pattern.


While this was thoroughly drying I made my custom paper by stamping the large and small buttons randomly onto plain white cardstock. A quick spritz with flat matte sprays in rose and aqua followed by a generous spraying of plain water, left to dry naturally, gave a lovely soft focus background. Once fully dried I painted the buttons with the Flat Matte Sprays, again using them as an ink. I drew the stitches on using a white Sakura pen.

I am excited to share the news of new stamp releases!!!

There are four new stamp sets and all new sets along with a host of fabulous new products (including Acrylic Liquid Wax - also appearing on my project!) will be appearing on That's Crafty! HOCHANDA shows, Monday 29th April @ 8 a.m. and 11 a.m., with as always, Jo at the helm, showing the new releases and of course, creating her demos with them, which I cannot wait to see.

In the coming week, I will be chatting about the inspiration for the latest stamp sets but for now, I will crack on with sharing details about this project. I wanted to add that the leaves are as near to their actual size which I am thrilled about and also the words on the Carved Leaves were compiled by Laura and they are just so perfect!

Instructions

I had prepared a stack of panels a few weeks ago. I tend to do this, create a batch of them and then I have them to hand. I worked on watercolour paper/rag paper which has a lovely texture and with an application of Gesso before laying down colour and then more Gesso applied on top, this is quite a textural piece.

I signed up for a Roxanne Evans Stout workshop and like how she is free in adding words to her collages, which are all but obscured on completion. I am trying to be more freeing, here I used a Stabilo pencil, writing loosely before the final layer of Gesso.

The panel was laid aside as I turned attention to the leaf stamp, from Set 1. I will be sharing a video of how I paint the stamped leaves, using That's Crafty! Flat Matte Sprays. For this leaf, I worked with Ochre, Walnut and Sage, stamped onto more rag paper and fussy cut.

When I inked with Distress Ink, I only lightly tapped the ink on the stamp, to only give an impression of the shape of the leaf, it is the Flat Matte Sprays which come into their own as I coloured this stamp. I have also substituted the D.I. with Archival Potting Soil.

The leaf was then machine stitched to the panel along with tea bag paper which I had stained previously with walnut, Sage and Basil.

Next, picking up the new Lynne's Mark Making Stamp Set 1, I stamped the trio of frames onto the same card as above, only focusing the ink on one frame, as that is all I required for this project.

The stamped word and frame were cut out, with the word Unique, placed inside the frame. I was so happy that the size of the frames will accommodate many of the words on the Carved Leaves sets and also words from the fabulous ATCoin Set 11.

Then, from Mark Making Stamp Set 2, picking this particular stamp, to stamp to the right of the leaf. With a fine paintbrush, I lightly applied Acrylic Liquid Wax to this mark and also to the word Unique.

I had previously applied Liquid Acrylic Wax to some Rice Paper (That's Crafty!) which had been eco dyed.
 I tore a piece from this prepared paper, layering it beneath the stamped word and frame.

I also applied the Liquid Acrylic Wax, trying to mimic dewdrops on the leaf.

I like to add pieces of this and that ... a teeny scrap when I cut out the frame and a piece of copper dry brushed with Gesso.
