My make this week is very much a paper craft one however I think it uses the imagery in the Vintage Library collection to its full potential without the need of introducing mixed media techniques beyond a single embellishment.

For the base of my piece I chose a 12" square frame which is approximately 3/4" deep and used it as a shadow box. I then chose a paper from the 12 x 12 backgrounds pad and cut out the central panel leaving a 1" frame all round. The edges of this were then distressed with Ground Espresso Archival ink but any brown ink will work before adhering it into place on the canvas. More paper from the backgrounds pad was cut to size and adhered to the inside of the frame covering the wood. For the background of the frame I cut background paper to fit the inside compartment and then tore it a little at the top curling the edges of the tear and tucking behind that gap a piece of contrasting paper taken from the Collectables pad.

The imagery I have used comes from the Collectables pad with the exception of the tag title and the dragon which comes from the Vintage Library 12 x 12 collection. I love that the Collectables contains images that are not found in the main collection making them really worth while adding into your shopping basket. Through out the imagery was inked with Navy ink.

The dragon and wizard were shaped with a ball tool and are held in place with dimensional glue. The books and book case in the picture above are supported on canvas stretchers which allowed me to slip other pieces in underneath the first set of images.

I then added lots more pieces of imagery - using my ball took to add shape to the owls along side glue gel. A lot of the imagery is set at angles again using glue gel allowing there to be lots of "movement" in the finished piece.

Having created the composition within the shadow box I then layered imagery onto the frame as shown.

Finally I added a single piece of resin cast from the Plates mould. This was primed with gesso before painting with Blue Navy Allegro paint and highlighting with gold metallic wax.
