Don't Swim, So Close to Me! by Amanda Pink

Hi Everyone

Welcome to my Thursday weekly DT post .

Today I am sharing a journal page that features some of Kate Cranes/ Carabelle Studios 'Well dressed Fish' practising their social distancing'. Practising being the 'apt word' as I'm not quite sure they've got the hang of it yet!!

For this project I worked 'off the journal' on mixed media paper.

To begin with I spritzed some of Seth Apters New Izink sprays through  That's Crafty's 'Lots of Circles' mask designed by Melina Dahl. These sprays have a great intensity of fabulous colour and are so easy to use. Just spray and you're away (so to speak) That's Crafty have the full range of colours in stock , along with the full range of masks designed by Melina.

Once dry I added some dot/ bubble detail by applying Midnight PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Acrylic paint through That's Crafty's 'Dotty' stencil.

I also created some open outline dots/ bubbles by monoprinting with the same stencil using Midnight and Snowflake PaperArtsy Frescos.

Some text stamping and crackle stamping added a touch more detail and interest.
I stamped with Archival ink using one of That's Crafty's Texture stamps and a mini PaperArtsy Stamp.

Around the sides top and bottom, but mainly along the bottom I created a crackled 'sea bed'.
For this I applied crackle texture paste through a Tim Holtz Layering Stencil. Once dry the crackle was
enhanced and grunged up with the help of distress crayons and black acrylic paint.

A few paint splatters finished the background off and it was then matt n layered onto a panel of card that  I edged with Washi tape. It was then adhered onto my black journal page.

Kate's 'Well dressed Fish' were stamped in archival ink, water coloured with distress inks and fussy cut. They then swam their way onto the background albeit a little too close for comfort, I think for the new social distancing rules!

Hence the parodied lyrics of an 80's classic track by The Police

  2. Really fabulous artwork Amanda. The background is amazing for those quirky fish and such a clever idea for the text.
Guess who's now got Sting singing in her head lol

  3. Yes, I think they might need a little more water in between but they look so gorgeous that I'll forgive them. The contrast between their golden fiery colours and the ocean blues and greens of the background is wonderful. The lyrics made me smile... and I'm going to be singing along with Fliss!
