Art Journal Play by Amanda Southern

Hi Everyone
I hope you are all well. With everything that is going on at the moment I am just not my crafty self and am struggling to find my crafty mojo so for this weeks make I just got out one of my art journals and just starting to throw colour around with no idea where I was going hoping that inspiration would find me at a point of my random arty play.
Here's What I Did:
Starting with a page that had previously had some acrylic paint brayered over it as I use blank pages to clean my brayer off onto, I started building up my background with a selection of stencils from TCW and That's Crafty. Some a sprayed several colours of Dina Wakley gloss sprays through others I used Dina Wakley Acrylic paints. Once I had a selection of stencilling down on the page I didn't know what I was going to use to feature on my page so I leaned over to a drawer that I keep some of my stash in thinking the first thing I see when I open it is what I am going to use, that first thing happened to be the Tim Holtz set of Photo Booth strips, so that's how they came to be on my page.
Once I had glued them to my page I added paint around with my finger, red around the photo and black around the edges. I added some stamping using Tims Faded Type set, the numbers around the edges and using orange paint the alphabet around the photo strip. I also added some torn washi tape around the photo's.
I then added some black and white stencilling and some white splashes, Dina's gloss sprays are great for paint splashes.
I stamped the quote out and added to the page, as I was searching through my quote stamps to find the right words this one just resinated with me as I think it relates to us all, well me definitely, feeling a little lost at the moment as normality as we know it has changed dramatically, however it gives us time to reflect and take stock of what actually is important to us.
The final addition of stencilling '404 not found' is symbolic to me that normality is currently not available.
Sorry if this is all a bit deep, but as I said when I started this page, I was just going with the flow.
Here's What I Used:
Art Journal lots to choose from HERE (I used Dylusions 8" x 8")
Dina Wakley Gloss Sprays - Marine, Cheddar, Olive & White
Dina Wakley Heavy Body Acrylic Paints - Ocean, White, Cheddar, Black
That's Crafty Multi Surface Paints - Christmas Red
Tim Holtz Stamp Set Faded Type (currently out of stock)
Here's hoping that your crafty mojo is in a far better place than mine,
Stay Safe Everyone and I will see you next Tuesday
Love

I know exactly what you mean about the mojo. I find mine comes in flashes and bursts and then vanishes again for days. But I'm so glad you found a way to trick it into turning up by turning to your art journal. This is a really powerful page, with those vivid warm colours at the heart of it, but the dark shadows encroaching from all around. And it may be that from these dark days of feeling lost and fearful, human society will come to have a better understanding of itself and move in a better direction when this is all over (this too shall pass).
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work.

Your page is amazing Amanda. The background is really stunning with all the layered detail and it suits the images so well too. The quote and stencilled text definitely resonate with the current situation too.
