Hot Wall Art by Amanda Southern

Hi Everyone
You know when you have an arty idea and you just have to go with it, this is one of those such arty occasions. You'll have to let me know what you think?

Please excuse the picture I struggled to get a good photo with no reflection on the glass.

and before I had framed it.

Here's What I Did:

I had the idea to make a piece of art using the textures of embossing powders using a combination of Seth's Baked Textures and Ranger Mixed Media powders. The piece started with my favourite of all the That's Crafty! MDF surfaces the 9" x 4.5" panel. To that I gave it a light painting of black gesso. I then divided the panel in half horizontally and masked off the half I didn't want to colour yet with post it notes. I then rubbed a Versamark inkpad all over that side of the panel and then covered it with Rocky Road Baked Texture and heated with my heatgun to melt it, I then repeated this doing it 3 times which gave great coverage and texture. I then masked off again to add the red embossed panel, this was using the new mixed media powders from Ranger, same method and 3 times, the shine on this is fabulous. I then added the top section which was again another of Rangers new mixed media powders this one is bone. All the edges of the panel are embossed to match which sadly you can't see. I then took the stencil from 13Arts and added the row of birds using DecoArt black modelling paste and left it to dry.

It was still missing something, in my opinion, so I added the line of gold foiling. This I did using That's Crafty! Craft glue this really is an all purpose glue and works brilliantly with your foils. Just place your glue where you want it and the glue goes on white, wait for it to go clear and then just rub your foil sheets over it. I added the words 'Use your wings' which is a Tim Holtz word chip but I covered it in 4 layers of Seth's Baked Texture Vintage Beeswax.

I then mounted the MDF panel onto a piece of black mountboard and added it to a frame that I got from The Range.

Here's What I Used:
That's Crafty! Mediums - Gesso Black
Emerald Creek Embossing Powders by Seth Apter - Rocky Road & Vintage Beeswax
Tim Holtz Word Chip
Black Mountboard

Have a fabulous week and I will see you all next Tuesday
Love

  1. Fabulous wall art... so bold and eye-catching, and then when you get up close there's all that amazing texture. I've got the Bone sitting at home waiting for me, so I'm really excited to see that in action. And I love the Beeswax-coated Quote Chip - a perfect finishing touch.
