Sprinkling Starlight by Fliss Goodwin

Hi there, this week I have a bright and breezy mixed media tag to share, which shows you just how well the original edition of Lynne’s Affirmations stamps fit in with the latest release.

Ingredients:

Size 8 Ranger Kraft Craft Tag or you could use a Size 8 That’s Crafty! Surfaces MDF Tag
That’s Crafty! Clear Stamp Sets - Lynne’s Affirmations Set 1 and Set 5
Ranger Archival Ink – Cactus Flower, Jet Black
Old Store Card or Palette Knife
Extras – Old Dictionary Paper, Vintage Music Score, Pink Chiffon Ribbon

Recipe:

Prepare the tag by gluing on torn pieces of dictionary paper and vintage music score with matt medium, brushing some medium over the top to make sure the papers are secure.

When the background is dry, swipe on some white gesso to add interest, following up with the Yellow Multi Surface Paint and finally the 2 Shimmer Paints. Mist with a little water, then blot with a paper towel. This will remove some of the paint, revealing the papers underneath and creating a lovely textured look.

Next, use the floral stencil randomly over the tag to create a subtle pattern using the pink shimmer paint. This will add some pretty pearly shimmer to the background.

Now place the tag on the Stamp Platform and secure with the magnets. Make sure the clear stamp side of the top is facing upwards then decide on the placement of the ballerina image and put her facing down on top of the tag. Close the lid to pick up the stamp and ink it up with black ink. As the stamping surface is quite shiny and a little textured, using the platform helps get a better impression as you can re-stamp until the image is clear. I actually stamped 3 times to get a nice, strong image.

Use the Stamp Platform again to add the stars at the top of the tag using the bright pink ink. This makes it look as if the ballerina is stretching up to touch or throw the stars.

Stamp the starlight text on mixed media paper with the same pink ink and cut out the individual words. Run black ink round the resulting word tiles and swipe the spun sugar Distress Marker brush end round all sides. This softens the look and blends the text in with the tag background.

To finish the tag, glue on the word tiles as shown and tie a scrap of chiffon ribbon through the top.

Have a great weekend and see you next week.

  1. Beautiful tag Fliss. I love the color mix, onto the old paper, a great idea. And the elegance in using the lilac tone for the stars, and for stamping the Affirmation. The flower stencil, used with Shimmer Paint, must look so gorgeous.

    1. Many thanks Dorthe, so kind of you and the shimmer on my tag wasn't picked up in the photo so there's a pearly finish in real life.
