The Only Way Is Art by Fliss Goodwin

Hi
there, I have a mixed media art panel to share this week that came about
because I painted the panel black as a background for another project but in
the end didn’t use it as it wasn’t quite right for it. It does make a great
under layer though, as you’ll see here.
Ingredients:
That’s Crafty! Clear Stamp Sets – Textures Collection Set 2, Inspirational Quotes Set
2
That’s Crafty! Dinky Stencils – Circles Background, Harlequin Background
That’s Crafty! Multi Surface Paints – Black, Purple, Teal, White, Yellow
Old
Store or Credit Card
Recipe:
As
I mentioned, my panel was painted black. I then used an old store card to swipe
on some Teal paint in a rather haphazard fashion as my main aim was grunge!
Once
the Teal was dry, I repeated the swiping process with the Purple paint. Some
of the paint went over the Teal layer and as you can see, it covered it up
really well.
I
then took the Harlequin stencil and applied a random pattern with Yellow paint.
I followed this up with the Circles stencil to add a pattern with White paint,
again at random.
I
diluted the remaining White paint with a little water and flicked this on the
panel with a paintbrush to add some interest. I stamped on various texture
images with the black ink until I was happy with the balance. Here’s a photo so
that you can see the layers detail.
I
dry embossed my chosen butterfly with an embossing folder from my stash – mine
is a Sizzix Tim Holtz Alterations one. I painted the embossed butterfly Yellow,
giving it 2 coats. Once it was dry, I swiped the Distress Oxide ink over the
raised areas and heat embossed them with clear powder. I glued it on with silicone
glue for a little added dimension.
I
stamped my chosen art quote on some scraps of painty paper from a previous
project using black ink. I always save the scraps, as you never know when they
might come in handy. I cut the quote up into word tiles and glued onto the
panel with the glue pen to complete my project.
We
have a new challenge for you today over at That’s Crafty! Challenge Blog so
don’t forget to check it out to see how you can win a great prize just for

Have
a great weekend and see you next week.

Fabulous use of the contrasting colour tones to make that butterfly really pop against the amazing background.
