Seek Refuge In Nature The Language of Trees Stamps by Lynne Moncrieff

11:00

Hello

Today, I am sharing "officially" the new stamps released during the week, The Language of Trees, Sets 1 and 2.

I have to thank Laura for producing the stamps, it is such a privilege to have more sets released by That's Crafty!

All the trees began life as hand-carved stamps. Although I had trees in my mind for a long time, life put the brakes on the project but ironically, life events also spurred me on as when I moved home, although previously I was lucky to live with trees nearby, in my new surroundings, trees all but surround me.

One of the trees feature on this latest collage. As for the words, they were inspired by trees but also relate to life in many ways.

Thank You for those who have purchased the new stamps and those of you who have left me such supportive comments on Instagram and Facebook.

Instructions

As always, first step for me, white Gesso onto MDF panel and the cotton rag paper.
Onto the cotton rag, Flat Matte Sprays and Walnut Ink were applied, working in layers, pushing back areas with more Gesso.

Working with the fabulous new, A4 Circles Stencil, from a piece of cotton rag I had previously prepared (for a separate project), I cut a circle.

With scraps of this and that, I would assemble a little cluster: teabag paper stained with Walnut Ink and Raspberry Flat Matte Spray with Acrylic Liquid Wax.

Onto the circle, one of the trees from The Language of Trees Set 2, stamped with Jet Black ink.
When stamping onto the texture of the cotton rag paper, it obviously changes the stamped result, which I like as it adds texture to the tree and I am always one seeking texture but I could easily add colour at this stage.

Onto the prepared panel, the full tree image was stamped.  When the circle is overlaid onto the panel, I slightly extended the length of the tree trunk, simply with the placement of the circle.

(Apologies for poor photo quality - I am taking photos at any opportunity (poor light) to allow me to share some of the process.)

After adhering the paper scraps and circle, the paper panel was adhered to the MDF panel. Leaving it to "settle", as I knew I would be applying a fair bit of water in the next step.

I need no excuse to dip into That's Crafty! Pearl Inks. With fine paintbrush and mix of Black and Tree Bark, after misting with water, the Pearl Inks were applied, focused around the tree image,

allowing the colour to diffuse outwards, creating a smoky effect.

Dipping the paintbrush straight into the Pearl Inks, the root of the stamped tree was extended, pulling the paintbrush towards the right side, without re-loading with Pearl Ink.

A swipe of white paint added, you can see in this photo below.

Stamp words onto scrap of handmade paper, layering onto another scrap of handmade paper which had Acrylic Liquid Wax applied to it. A mix of Stabilo Watersoluble Pencil and Black Pearl Ink, applied around the stamped words.

A detail shot shows the Raspberry, Sage, Walnut Ink and the smoky effect of the Pearl Ink when applied with lots of water.

Three squares torn from walnut ink stained teabag paper, with Acrylic Liquid Wax, create a small detail on the collage. Again, taking the Stabilo pencil and Pearl Ink in Black, scribbling around the paper.

Another added to upper left of panel.

Thank You for visiting this latest post.
