Hi Everyone,
Welcome to my Thursday weekly DT post of Creativity.
This week I am sharing a card I have created using distress inks and one of That's Crafty! stamp sets: 'Life is a Balance' designed by Melina Dahl.
This week I am sharing a card I have created using distress inks and one of That's Crafty! stamp sets: 'Life is a Balance' designed by Melina Dahl.
The stamp set includes a wonderful butterfly and sentiment and it was a dream to create with as the design of the butterfly stamp is a pleasure to colour with its distinct lines and open spaces. Its also super easy to fussy cut!
To create the background I applied a couple of colours of Distress ink to an acrylic block, spritz the ink with water and then stamped the inky block onto a piece of card. Once dry, I stamped the butterfly in the centre of the inked card using Versafine Ink. This is my choice of ink when stamping with clear stamps as it gives a really crisp black image. It does need to be heat set though as it is quite a 'wet' ink and will easily smudge if not dried. I then used Picked Raspberry, Seedless Preserves, Salty Ocean and Shaded Lilac distress inks to watercolour the butterfly.
Next I added some detail stamping and stenciling to the background. For the stenciling I used Shaded Lilac Distress ink with Tim Holtz layering stencil: Linen, moving the stencil around the piece of card as I worked. You could use any stencil of your choice.
For the stamping I used a PaperArtsy Mini stamp with Black Archival ink. Again you could use any detail stamp of your choice.
There's also the addition of some paint splatters. I do love splattering the paint around!
I stamped a second butterfly onto a piece of card, heat set the ink and then coloured the butterfly in the same way, using the same colours as the one I had stamped on the background.
I fussy cut this second butterfly and manipulated it's wings lightly before adhering it to the background butterfly.
Layering the butterfly in this way gives it some lovely dimension and a sense of movement.
To finish off I mat and layered the background onto white and black card before finally adhering to a white handmade card.

A beautifully bright and cheery card Amanda. The butterfly looks so beautiful in pink and the lilac on the background looks just gorgeous in contrast.
