Our Design Team are taking a well deserved break for a couple of weeks and we will be back on 7th January 2020 when Amanda Southern will be kicking off the New Year for us.
Hello
For my final post for 2019, I wanted a project which would nod to the season of winter.
I found myself in a strangely indecisive place. Although I rarely have a set plan, for this I found myself in a quandary as to the focal for the project. I deliberately pulled away from reaching for leaf stamps, finding myself leaning towards a quote as the focal and then my eye caught a particular PaperArtsy stamp set, designed by Everything Art. It suddenly clicked into place!

That's Crafty! Surfaces MDF Chunkies 8" x 8" Pack of 2
That's Crafty! Pearl Ink: Silver
That's Crafty! Multi-Purpose Craft Adhesive
That's Crafty! Surfaces Rice Paper
That's Crafty! Medium - Gesso - White
PaperArtsy Eclectica Cling Stamps EEA05
13Arts Natural Mica Flakes Fine Silver
Archival Ink Jet Black
Extras: Cotton Rag Paper, Re-cycled Packing Paper, Twig, Sewing Machine
Instructions
First step, assembling the Chunkie. That's Crafty! MDF is always cut so cleanly that assembling such a project is so simple and of course, I used the That's Crafty! Multi-Purpose Craft Adhesive.
As always, my choice is to prep a surface with white Gesso, even though I would subsequently cover the MDF with cotton rag paper.
Gesso was also applied to two sheets of cotton rag paper and to various (white) packing paper I rooted out.
Once the cotton rag was dry, I misted one panel with water, prior to applying the Silver Pearl Ink. The subtle area of wash, was of course eventually covered up but that doesn't trouble me too much! Splatters of the Pearl Ink were then added to this panel and to the second panel.
With the Pearl Ink, I also made marks on scraps of paper: That's Crafty! Rice Paper, handmade paper and re-cycled packing paper, also a piece which previously had Pearl Inks in Bronze and Tree Bark applied.
(Please excuse quality of photos. I considered not sharing them but it gives you an idea of my process)
The panel was laid aside for the moment, to turn attention to stamping. I decided to spell out Winter Wishes using the PaperArtsy stamp set. With black ink, each letter was stamped onto the prepared second sheet of rag paper. When stamping the letters, allowing for enough space to cut out the individual letters.
After abrading the edges, the Pearl Ink was swiped around edges of each cut out letter.
To embellish the Chunkie, all I wanted was one twig but it needed to be "lifted" and become more wintry in appearance, 13arts Natural Mica Flakes were the perfect addition.
This product could so easily go under the radar but I like it as an alternative to glitter and works beautifully for adding a hint of sparkle to natural elements for this time of the year.
It was time to bring the project together. The stitched rag paper panel was adhered to the Chunkie with a strip adhered to each edge..
The letter tiles were adhered to the front of the Chunkie, adding more of the pieces of prepared papers with the mark making.
That's Crafty! Blog will be taken a break for the festivities, so this is my final post for 2019. Another year which has flown so quickly.
Thanks to those who have taken the time to stop by and see what I have been getting up to creatively throughout this year and for those leaving comments, it does mean a great deal to me. I am lucky to be part of the That's Crafty! D.T., which has been for a considerable time now and grateful for the privilege of creating a weekly project for this Blog. I have much to thank Laura and Graham for, including producing stamps again for me in 2019.
This can be "the most wonderful time of the year" but it can also be a difficult time for many. May you find light, love and joy even if facing the most difficult of moments.

Here, a piece of corrugated cardboard was used for mark making.
More mark making.
Taking pieces to the sewing machine, they were machine stitched onto the rag paper panel.
After stamping the letters, with a fine paintbrush, I filled in with the Silver Peal Ink.
To embellish the Chunkie, all I wanted was one twig but it needed to be "lifted" and become more wintry in appearance, 13arts Natural Mica Flakes were the perfect addition.
I love loose, trailing threads, so allowed the thread ends to hang over the edge.
Twig adhered to right side.

Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Sprays: Picked Raspberry, Broken China, Squeezed Lemonade
Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Ink Pads: Pumice Stone, Walnut Stain, Faded Jeans, Hickory Smoke
Choose your favourite colours, lay down the stencil and spray:
Let it dry.
Stamp and colour the animals using either the sprays or inkpads and a water brush.
Cut them out, stick them down and add some computer text.
Look at the pig's expression with the donkey bellowing in his ear!

Happy Christmas everyone!
I have a mixed media card to share this week featuring a rather frosty looking bauble that I had great fun altering up for a really wintery look.
Step by Step:
The background came first and was the result of pressing a somewhat inky mask used for spraying ink on another background onto a piece of my ever useful ink spray overflow paper. I always do my ink spraying through a stencil or mask with a larger (usually A3 size) piece of paper underneath to catch the overflow that always results from this. I also use the same sheet to mop up spray from my glass mat as it sometimes ends up on there too!
As you can see on my card, you sometimes get accidental backgrounds that in my case, I sometimes like even more than those that are intentional. This one was cut to a square size and the edges distressed with an emery board before attaching to a kraft card blank.
I then created the bauble - an MDF one - by taking the same snowflake mask and placing it on top. I then pushed holographic fine texture paste through the mask to create a pattern. Once it was dry, I misted it with blackberry and sage flat matte sprays, followed up with lilac lustre spray.
I stamped my chosen text on the background with purple ink and then glued on the frosty bauble to finish.
Supplies:
Extras - Kraft Card Blank, Smooth White Cartridge Paper
Have a great Christmas and see you next year!

Hi Everyone
Welcome to my weekly post of Creativity.
This week I am sharing a trio of Christmas cards that are quick and easy to create so can be replicated en masse if you have a lot of cards to make.
All three cards are based on the same design using the same inks, stamp set and stencil. They differ only in the size of card I've used for each and of course the slight nuances you always get when you create something by hand.
The backgrounds are stencilled using distress inks. I placed Tim Holtz Layering stencil: Plaid onto a piece of white card, taping it down with masking tape. I then applied 2 colours of Distress ink through the stencil: Festive Berries and Pine Needles, applying them one colour at a time. I chose to work with traditional Christmas colours but you could choose any colours you wish.
I then removed the stencil to reveal the 'plaid' design.
As I was making three cards I repeated the process to create another stencilled panel. One of the panels I halved and used for the two smaller cards , the other I used as a whole for the long landscape card.
Stampers Anonymous/Tim Holtz stamp set: Festive Sketch provided all the sentiments for the cards which are stamped with archival ink and adhered to the cards on foam pads
25th Dec for one of the smaller cards
It's decorated with some red berry gem beads .
'Happy Holidays' for the second smaller card
Again, decorated with gem beads.
Finally, 'Merry Christmas' for the landscape card.
This is decorated with a stamped star from the same stamp set as the sentiments.
The star is coloured with Distress inks: Fossilized Amber, sparkled with some Ranger Distress Stickles and embellished with a red berry gem bead. Sadly the lens has failed to pick up the 'sparkle' ... trust me, it does!
White card
Black card
Tim Holtz Distress Inks: Festive Berries (you could use Barn Door or Fired Brick Instead), Pine Needles (you could use Evergreen Bough instead), Fossilized Amber
Archival Ink: Jet Black
Ranger Distress Stickles: Icicle
Black Fineliner Pen
Stampers Anonymous/Tim Holtz Stamps: Festive, CMS283
Tim Holtz Layering Stencil: Plaid THS097
Ranger Mini Ink Blending Tool and Foam Pads
Masking Tape
Paper Trimmer
Red Gem Beads
I hope you have enjoyed your time here with me today and that maybe I have offered some last minute Christmas card inspiration.
Thanks for taking the time to stop by especially as it's such a busy time year.

Hi everyone. We are all on Christmas overload at the moment so I wanted to make something non Christmas and which is fun.
Welcome to Mr Fox
I cut a large tag shape from a piece of white card, I used 13 Arts Ayeeda Mist sprays in Chalk Caladon and Turquoise Light. I sprayed several times to build up the colour, letting each layer dry before applying another layer. I like to let each layer dry naturally as the colour stays truer than if you force dry it.
In the meantime, I stamped Mr Fox on a piece of card and coloured with alcohol pens, I used nice bright colours but you could use more traditional colours if you prefer. I cut the shape out.
I stamped Mr Fox again onto the tag and added the leaves from the large flower stamp.
I tidied my leaves up and extended them in parts using a fine liner pen.
I then glued my colourful Mr Fox into the stamp on the tag. Doing it this way meant I didn't have to cut out all the little feathery bits of the stamp.
I hope you like my tag which I will be using for a large parcel.
I would like to thank you all for checking out my makes on the blog since I joined the team and also to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy, crafty New Year.

Hello
Seth Apter is incredibly influential so when working with his stamps, it can be so easy to suddenly be honouring his style, that was what I found to be the hurdle when inking up this fabulous PaperArtsy Mini stamp designed by Seth Apter so I deliberately stepped back, distancing myself from the creator of this design to re-assess the stamp and the direction I wanted to venture with it.

That's Crafty!Surfaces MDF Panel 4.5" x 9" Pack of 3
That's Crafty! Surfaces Rice Paper
That's Crafty! Pearl Inks: Bronze, Tree Bark
That's Crafty! Medium - Gesso White
That's Crafty! Medium - Liquid Acrylic Wax

That's Crafty! Stencil Mandala 8" x 8"
PaperArtsy Eclectica Designed by Seth Apter EM45
Archival Inks; Jet Black, Potting Soil
Extras: used teabag, black embroidery thread, needle, leaf
Instructions
With Archival Ink Potting Soil and Jet Black, I inked up the PaperArtsy Seth Apter Mini, stamping onto a used teabag.
With black embroidery thread, I set about adding details to the stamped teabag, stitching the centre cross and then a few French Knots. The stitches can be seen on the photo below. The tail ends of the black thread, at the rear of the teabag, were drawn upwards and downwards to bring a vertical line, shown more clearly on the main photo.
There are no step photos of the layering.
First, I applied Gesso (white) onto the MDF Panel and then to this, I layered a piece of re-cycled white packing paper which I applied Gesso to. Once dry, I diluted some of the Pearl Inks Silver and Black, randomly applying a small area before wiping off excess. Pearl Inks were also applied to That's Crafty! Rice Paper, before applying, I misted the Rice Paper with water. Drying flat, air drying overnight, once dry I then tore a piece to layer onto the panel.
As always, something kicking around catches my eye, this time it was a piece of stained calico which had, with Texture Paste, the wonderful That's Crafty! Mandala stencilled onto it. To this, I added a piece of MDF, which was a piece taken from a future project to be shared here. A piece of muslin was painted with Gesso, to bring another layered texture.

I've made a quick and easy card this week.
I was digging through my stamps and found this set by Ingrid:
It's not specifically a Christmas set, but colour in red and green, add a little glitter and it works well for Christmas flowers. I used a stamping platform for this and VersaFine Clair:
You can add in extra bits of foliage:
Then I used a variety of pencils to colour it:
Add glitter and some enamel accents and you're done!
I took the greeting from a PaperArtsy Kay Carley set:

That's it for this week - off to finish my Christmas cards!

Hello!
I hve another couple of festive cards to share this week which like the frosty ones from last week feature the same stencil and stamped image, this time in more traditional Christmas colours and still have some bling on one.
Step by Step:
Believe Card
This card has an ink spray background and I used Flat Matte Sprays in Sage with a touch of Tomato followed up with Aqua Lustre Spray. I then placed the Poinsettia mask on top and spread 3D Holographic Gel through it with a palette knife. This dried to give a lovely glittery look which only just shows in the photo. The colour is also a bit brighter.
I misted a die cut circle of smooth cartridge paper (the size chosen to fit the bird image) with Walnut Flat Matte Spray, using a light touch. I stamped the bird on with black ink and once the ink was dry, painted the image with Flat Matte Sprays - I used Ochre, Saffron, Tomato and Walnut. I added the circle to a sage green mat.
I assembled my card using text from the Dragonfly Dreams stamp set stamped with green ink and cut out.
Wish Card
For this card I simply placed the mask on my piece of card and misted it with Christmas Green Lustre Spray mostly round the edges, following up with Christmas Red in the centre. I distressed the edges with an emery board.
I stamped the bird on smooth white cartridge paper, colouring as before but with a slightly more subtle effect. I trimmed it to a square which I added to a mat of green glitter card then assembled my card with the simple wish text from the atcoin stamp set.
Supplies:
Extras - Square Kraft Card Blanks, Smooth White Cartridge Paper, Green Card, Green Glitter Card
Have a great weekend and see you next week - can't believe I only have one more post here before Christmas arrives!
