For the love of Layers by Amanda Pink

11:00

Hi Everyone

Welcome to my Thursday weekly post.
After a flurry of Christmas present wrapping and card writing this last week I felt I needed a break away from all things festive so the Christmas creativity I had in mind for today was shelved and instead I created with colour, texture and collage paper to make a multi layered mixed media tag.
7 layers in total not counting the focal feature!

The Tag itself is a Thats Crafty! #8 White/ Greyboard tag. It is primed with gesso, stamped with a background stamp and then covered with randomly torn Dina Wakley collage paper, which is adhered and sealed with matte medium.
You can see from the photo the stamping is visible through the collage paper at this stage - some of it does become less visible with the additional layers - but only some!

Texture paste came next applied roughly with a palette knife

and then the paint, applied with both brayer and fingers. If you look towards the bottom of the tag in the photo below you can just see some of the background stamping peeking through.

Next there was some more stamping and stenciling to add yet more layers of detail aswell as some white pen work for highlighting and scribbly doodling.

The words 'Wish'

'Dreams'

and 'Love' come curtesy of Designer tape.
The focal feature is a That's Crafty! MDF Heart that is sliced into with a work knife to create cracks and grooves which are painted red whilst the heart itself is painted black. The heart was treated to a thin coat of transparent gloss but not pleased with how it looked it was quickly wiped away to leave a flatter gloss appearance. A smaller That's Crafty! heart sits on top embellished with a black glossy star.
