Silence by Lynne Moncrieff

Hello

This week, I thought I would share pages from a book I am working in.

The book itself is a former That's Crafty D.T. project, which can be seen HERE. Before I started to work in this book, I machine stitched a few of the pages together. It is a decision that came about as I wanted to work in a book with less pages, stitching a couple of pages together reduced the number but also provided more stability which would be helpful as I knew I would be layering this and that to the pages. I could have adhered with Gel Medium but the stitches bring another something to each page and the book as a whole.

If you don't want to use a sewing machine on your projects, maybe you want to take a look at this That's Crafty! stencil, HERE.

Instructions

Although I worked on pages already prepared, to start from scratch, stain tea bag paper with Walnut Ink Crystals. I've shared videos of how I go about this but if new to working with Walnut Ink Crystals, have fun in simply playing around with them.

Across both pages, I inked up the Script stamp and placing it on my hand instead of an acrylic block, I randomly stamped onto the stained pages. I wanted a grungy, imperfect result for the stamping.

For the left side page, the machine stitching is the back side of the stitching from the previous page.  I decided not to obscure this because it adds immediate texture and it also provided, almost a frame for me to work within.

Dip a small tag into bath of dissolved Walnut Ink Crystals (I stain a batch of tags, then I have some to hand). Onto scrap of handmade paper, ink up "Silence is" from a PaperArtsy Eclectica EAB03 stamp. Before layering to tag, add marks to tag with fineliner pen. To the page, layer the tag with scrap of handmade paper and some fibres.

To upper corner, staple piece torn from vintage ticket (Thank you Dorthe for the tag!), layered with piece of corrugated cardboard swiped with Interference Gold Paint.

Taking another piece of corrugated cardboard, this time painting with Gesso, this is layered beneath the tag.

For the facing page, the leaf is firstly stamped directly onto the page

and then for a second time, onto a piece of book text.

Layering the panel over the first stamped image before adding touches of the Interference Gold Paint, with fingertips.

The same EAB quote stamp is inked up again.  Final scrappy elements: another piece of corrugated cardboard, another piece torn from the vintage ticket, rusted washer layered over a piece of textile.

With fingers, the Interference Gold Paint was applied to edges of both pages, smeared on.

Thank You for your visit.
