Abstract Textures by Nikki Acton

Hi everyone.
Today’s project is one I made for the Hochanda shows a few months ago and
features the 8x8 inch white/greyboard journal pages and That’s Crafty! Textures stamp
set 2. I do love abstract art and had great fun including these stamps onto
this journal page.
I began with
black and white gesso to create some blocks and horizontal and vertical lines –
quite roughly at this stage as you can see!
I then took the
Textures stamp set and stamped onto white photocopy paper. I used this as it is
thin paper and I wanted to collage it over my page. I tore and cut sections and
adhered them with matte medium.
I stamped more
of the textures with paint directly onto the journal page to build up layers
and develop the composition, tweaking the black/white mix in places. Having
just used black and white paint up until this stage I decided to add a little
watered down brown over some of the photocopy paper and then used the edge of a
credit card to add some thicker black lines with paint. Finally I added some
black and white paint splatters.

Love the way you have almost mapped out your blocks on this one Nikki, great way to follow on with your paper strips and stamps. Shame its only 8x8 it would look fab as a large canvas hanging on a wall. Love it.
