Hi Everyone

Happy New Year!
Hope you have enjoyed the holiday season and are ready to start a new year and indeed a new decade creating!
To kick start 2020 my first project this year for That's Crafty! is what I call an 'art card'- a piece of art that can be given as a card but can also be kept and displayed after the occasion as an art panel.

I've worked on Tan Toned Mixed Media Paper which I personally love especially if you team it with a monochrome colour palette of black and white! The papers tone is similar to that of Kraft card which would be a good alternative to use if you don't have any tan toned paper in your paper stash.
The central and main feature of the art card is created using one stencil by TCW 'Flower Grid' designed by Rebekah Meier.
I wanted to make the flower element of the design stand proud of the background and give it both layers and dimension so here's what I did....

I positioned the stencil onto some tan toned paper keeping it in place while I worked with masking tape.

I applied black acrylic paint through the full stencil design, removed the stencil and repeated the process a couple more times. The second time I stencilled the design in full again and the third time I stencilled just the small inner part of the design.

The larger of the 3 stencilled panels provided the base of my card. The other two were fussy cut to create the layered, dimensional flower element of the stencil design.

The petals/ leaves were fussy cut individually and edged with black acrylic paint. To give the petals/ leaves some dimension I scored down each of their stencilled centre lines. I also added some white highlighter pen marks to each of the petals/leaves before adhering them in place on the stencilled card base.

Heavy gel medium was my chosen adhesive as I felt it allowed for greater dimension to be achieved.

The flower is embellished with a metal button that is topped with a black gem bead.

I carried some white pen work over onto the card base making marks around the outer edges of the card base and around the central 'walled' circle. I couldn't resist some white paint splatters too.

To finish off I added a couple of word stickers and mat n layered the art card/ panel onto white and black cardstock.
