Anatomy of an Art Journal Spread by Fliss Goodwin

11:00

Happy New Year everyone, I've decided to start 2020 off with a step by step process of how one of my art journal double page spreads came about as it's easier than you might think if you create pages layer by layer.

What I Did:

Step 1
Mist the pages with aqua flat matte spray.

Step 2
Place the stencil on each side and mist with lilac flat matte spray. At this point the stencil is covered in ink and I never waste it so if you look at the bottom of the post you'll see what I created from it.

Step 3
Stamp script in 3 places with purple ink and add splatters of dissolved walnut crystals.

Step 4
Take 2 word stencils and place of either side of the 2 pages. Mist with black purple flat matte spray. I got some accidental misting doing this step but it adds to the grungy look of the pages - serendipity rules ok!

Step 5
Now for the embellishing which I did by stamping the leafy nature collage image on the left hand page with brown ink, heat embossing it and colouring the leaves with markers. I stamped the large owl on smooth cartridge paper, heat embossing with clear powder and colouring him with Zig markers. I cut him out and glued him in place having already adding some grounding by stamping and heat embossing the grass image near the base of the right hand page.

Supplies:

As I never like to waste the ink left on a mask once I've misted the paper underneath and also pick up the excess spray from my glass mat, I keep some paper next to me and here's the result from my mopping up this time. Aren't they fab!

I think I'll have some cards to share very soon!

Have a great weekend and see you next week.
