Use Your Wings by Amanda Pink

Hi Everyone

Welcome to my Thursday weekly post of Creativity!
This week I am sharing the project I created for That's Crafty's 3D Challenge feature that was in the June 2019 edition of Craft Stamper magazine.
Some of the team created a 3D project using  a That's Crafty! 4x6  inch MDF Chunkie. As with all That's Crafty! Surfaces this Chunkie is excellent quality and a dream to work with or on. It can be used in landscape or portrait format and can be displayed either hung on a wall or left freestanding.
We all used the Chunkie and any products that were available from the online shop so the creative possibilities were endless.
As usual a list of products used appears at the end of the post.

I decided that I would alter my Chunkie by combining several of the design elements, techniques and colours that I have used in some of the projects I have shared here and on my blog previously.

So after assembling and painting the Chunkie with black acrylic paint I created a masterboard which I used to cover the front back and all sides of the Chunkie.
I adhered an initial layer of tissue tape to mixed media paper, then added colour using That's Crafty! multi-purpose paints and white gesso after which I introduced some ink stamping as well as some heat embossed stamping using Baked Texture embossing powders.
Heres a couple of close ups of the detail and texture created!

The focal feature is made up of a few parts - a couple of crackled die cuts, the outer one embellished with hex nuts, a That's Crafty! ATCoin covered with a piece from the masterboard and a stamped and painted butterfly.

I manipulated the wings of the butterfly to add a sense of movement and even more dimension to the already dimensional chunkie

I also added a Tim Holtz Ideology game spinner to the butterflies thorax.

The four corners of the front of the Chunkie were embellished with hex nuts

and a Tim Holtz Quote chip mounted and 'roughed up' with gesso provided the title.

I kept the back 'embellishment free' as a great feature of That's Crafty's Chunkie's (with the exception of  the ATC Chunkie) is that the back panel has a couple of  press out hole's that enable you to hang your art on the wall if you so wish.  As the holes are 'press out' you simply seal them with a touch of adhesive if you want your Chunkie to be freestanding. That's a win/win in my book and a big plus point for the overall design.

  2. A real showstopper, Amanda. As always your textural background layers are fantastic, and I love the dimension you create with your layered elements. Now I see them closer, I can see those rings are crackled rather than silver, but that only makes me love them more of course!
