I Love Texture by Alison Hall

00:00

Hello crafters! I absolutely love a bit of texture, and today I'm sharing a journal page which is full of it.

Here's what I used...

DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic - Cobalt Teal Hue, Green Gold, Primary Magenta, Carbon Black
Carabelle Studio Stamps - Follow Your Heart by Birgit Koopsen, Alphabets by Ana Bondu
Paintbrush, Palette Knife, Stencil Brush, Rigger/Writing Paintbrush, Ink Blending Foam, Soft Black Pencil, Old Store Card, Old Toothbrush, Scrap of Music Paper

Here's what I did...

1. I started by using a palette knife to spread a rough layer of modelling paste over a page of the journal, then used the tip of the palette knife to make lots of scratchy marks in the paste. Then I left it to dry.

2. Once the paste was dry, I used a flat paintbrush to add some colour with cobalt teal hue and green gold paint, blending the colours with some white tinting base.

3. I added some random stamping, using cobalt teal hue with the Alphabets stamp. I then used an old store card to add some lines and scrapes of carbon black paint in the corners.

4. Using carbon black paint, I stamped the small heart off centre on my page, and the zig zags in two corners.

5. I painted a piece of scrap music paper with primary magenta, then stamped the small heart with carbon black. I cut it out, and adhered it over the stamped heart on the journal page, using matte medium. I used a soft black pencil to add shading around the heart.

6. Using a long thin paintbrush (a rigger or writing brush), I painted my wording. The uneven writing adds even more texture to the page, so don't worry about your handwriting.

7. The page needed some white accents, so I stencilled white tinting base through the reverse honeycomb Dinky Stencil in a few places. It also needed more magenta, so I watered some down, and used an old toothbrush to add some splatters.

8. It's not very visible in the photo, but I added some gold wax lustre over the texture on the edges of the page.

9. To finish, I sponged the edges of the page with carbon black paint.

I hope I've inspired you today,

Alison x
