'Lace' Love.... by Amanda Pink

Hi Everyone

Welcome to my Thursday weekly DT post.
Over the past few weeks I've been enjoying creating with some of That's Crafty's fabulous 6x6 stencils making them the focus of my finish piece.
So at the risk of doing more of the same this week I have another project: a card that showcases That's Crafty's 6x6 stencil: 'Lace'.

I began by painting a piece of mixed media paper with black acrylic paint. When dry I applied white gesso through the 'Lace' stencil design.

Stenciling with white gesso first would ensure the colours I planned to use next would remain 'true'  against the black background. I have to admit though I was very tempted to leave it monochrome as I loved how it looked at this stage.

I resisted the temptation and continued working with 3 different colours of heavy body acrylics.  I applied each of them through different areas of the full stencil design. (Apologies for the poor lighting on the next few photos - one of those temperamental days for good and bad lighting, frustratingly!!!)

I wanted my finished project to have a little dimension so I repeated the steps above but only stencilled the parts of the full stencil design that I wanted to raise- the inner hexagon and the inner 'star flower' shape.

I added some white pen work to all the stencil work and mounted the background panel on to an 8x8 white handmade card.

The stenciled shapes were then adhered to their relevant places on the background and the inner hexagon.

I used foam pads of differing thickness to give them varying degrees of dimension.

To finish off I added the word 'Love' - A word that is suitable for almost any occasions that you may wish to use the card for.

  1. Such a striking piece Amanda. The monochrome does look good I agree but the bright colours on the finished card are so bold and striking that they cheer up a very dull and cold day.

  2. Such bold colours to go with the sharp graphic look of the lace. I like the b&w too, but the colours bring it zinging to life!
