Butterfly Wings by Samantha Read

Hello! Today I'd like to share with you a really quick easy project, great for home decor or as a little gift.

I find that as soon as Christmas and New Year celebrations are over I'm very much starting to look forward to Spring and just yesterday whilst out walking Poppy I found a Daffodil in full bloom!
So Spring on my mind was my inspiration and quite a few of my Christmas gifts had butterflies on them!

What I did

I arranged and adhered together lolly sticks as shown, keeping the horizontal one separate. Using a Dinky butterfly stencil I applied Texture Sand Paste and then a couple of coats of gesso, paints and sprays, not forgetting the separate lolly stick - which I stamped the words directly on to and then glued in place.

I also stamped the leaves directly on to the lolly sticks, the butterfly I stamped on to white card before colouring and sticking in place, I did this just to keep the definition a little clearer because the butterfly is the focal piece.
Finishing touches include painting the stencilled butterflies with metallic silver paint and a coat of 3D Gloss Gel to add a sheen to the main butterfly. A ribbon and beads from my stash were optional depending on if or how to hang.

What I used

That's Crafty! Multi Surface Paints - I used Lavender, Teal and Metallic Silver
That's Crafty! Lustre Spray - I used Silver, Aqua and Lilac

Extras; ribbon and beads

I do hope you like it, thank you for looking and I wish you a very happy and creative 2019, Sam xx
