Fabric Tote by Lynne Moncrieff

00:00

This week I combined two favourites of mine - stamping onto fabric and stamping with paint, appearing on a mini tote with stamps that are new to me, PaperArtsy Everything Art stamps.

Supplies

Fresco Finish Paint - Lake Wanaka, Chalk, Little Black Dress, London Night
Sharpie Paint Pens – Black, White
Fabric Medium
Extras:- Re-cycled suede, calico, mini wooden craft spool for mark making

Instructions

  •  Wherever I’ve used clear Gesso or Frescos, I have mixed them with Fabric Medium.

Apply clear Gesso to tote with foam brush. Once dry, apply Chalk, in a random fashion, followed by Lake Wanaka. Also applying all paints to handles.

Dip end of craft spool into Lake Wanaka and “stamp” onto one side of the tote, adding dots with Little Black Dress into the centres. Once dry, apply Chalk and Lake Wanaka as in step one, this pushes back the “stamping”.

Stamp paint brush, with paint, onto tote. In surrounding areas stamp the abstract design.

Onto scraps of painted calico, stamp sentiment and abstract design, with paint. Do not adhere any of those to the tote for the moment. Time to work on the rear of the tote.

Apply Lake Wanaka to circles stamp, pushing back the stamping with paints. Stamp abstract design. Add dots of white. Stamp abstract design onto a piece of painted calico, layering to another piece of painted calico. With paint pen, doodle a border.

To complete tote, adhere a band of suede, stamped with design, around top edge of tote. Onto front of tote, adhere the stamped panels prepared earlier, scribbling a border around both panels. Stitch a button to the bag, grunging (!) it up with some messy marks with the white pen.

The bag is ready to be packed with your favourite supplies ready for some art time!

  1. Dear Lynne, your stamps with paint, looks wonderful, and sharp on the tote fabric. The pen stands so beautiful and sharp, and the stamped black/white spots, too- I love the kind of shabby look it has, and it is a wonderful idea, for carrying materials to a creative meeting with a friend, or for a class !! xx
