'Original'..... by Amanda Pink

Hi Everyone

Welcome to my Thursday weekly post of Creativity.
This week I have been creating with another of That's Crafty! fabulous surfaces- a door hanger.
Much as I like the design and purpose of this surface I thought I would show you how you can 'change it up' with a few simple cuts in the right places to create a small art panel.

Taking the hanger I measured and marked out where I would 'cut' to create two separate panels.
I also rounded off the corners as you can see indicated in the photo below.

I then primed both panels with gesso. Taking the larger of the two panels I covered it with some 'lacey wide braid/ trim/ ribbon- not sure of its official name ?? It was destined for the bin after a recent sort out that is until I thought maybe I could use it to add some interesting texture in my art.....
It is adhered and sealed in place with matte medium.

I then played around a bit adding a little more texture using gesso and texture paste.

Once dry I began bringing in some colour choosing to work with only one - 'Butter' by PaperArtsy. I love a monochrome + one palette. You will spot some subtle 'Cheddar' splatters though to compliment the wings of the butterfly!
The smaller panel with the round aperture was given a coat of black acrylic paint and then stencilled with texture paste using an AALL and create stencil. Once dry the textured dots were caught with 'Butter' to accentuate and some eyelets added to embellish.

I covered the aperture with a distress inked and stamped That's Crafty! ATCoin which just so happens to be the same size, so the perfect fit!
The oval frame (from my own stash) was treated to a coat of black acrylic paint.
The butterfly was cut from a 12x12 scrapbook paper by 13Arts, coloured with Distress ink and embellished with a pen nib.

The wings of the butterfly were manipulated gently to give dimension and a sense of movement

To finish off I added a lightly distress inked quote chip.
