I was over the moon when Laura asked me to Guest Blog - being a long-term fan of That's Crafty! and all their glorious products, it was
a wonderful opportunity to share a wee bit of what I get up to with them
:)
A little bit about myself – my name
is Lotte Kristensen, I live in Scotland, and have been crafting for as long as
I can remember. I am regularly published
in Craft Stamper, and as of 2019 also a Design Team member of Mixed Up Creative
and PaperArtsy. I really just like
playing around and experimenting - it doesn't always have to lead to
something. But anyway, let's get on with
it!
For my first project, I'm using some Rubber Moon Frida Kahlo
stamps to make a little art shrine.
I
love making little things, got a thing about miniatures - probably because it
reminds me of playing with dolls' houses.
The Frida stamps from Rubber Moon are some of my favourites, so it
seemed apt to combine the two :)
Materials Used
Posca Pen: Light Blue
First, assemble the inside frame of the shrine, and then paint
everything in two coats of gesso (avoiding any bits that will be glued
together). On the backing piece of the
shrine, on the other side of the gessoed bit, stick on your photo of choice,
again leaving the glue tabs clear. When
everything is dry, paint with one coat of DecoArt Pyrrole Orange, leave to dry,
and then give a light sanding on all pieces (sand in one direction only!) Using
the DecoArt Antiquing Cream, rub all over, then immediately wipe away excess
with a baby wipe.
Next, ink up the Rubber Moon Soul Sisters stamp in Ranger
Archival Vibrant Fuchsia, and stamp all over the front of the shrine. Stamp the other parts of the shrine the same
way, including the Rubber Moon Oculus stamp (to stamp on the inside edge of the
shrine, use without a stamping block). On the top of the front of the shrine, add clear embossing ink in a
rough circle, sprinkle with Baked Texture in Ancient Amber and heat set. On top of this, add more embossing ink and
another layer of Baked Texture. Be ready
with the Oculus stamp, inked up in Ranger Archival Watering Can, and while the
embossing powder is still soft, stamp into it. Leave stamp for 30 seconds before removing. Ink up the Oculus stamp in Ranger Archival
Watering Can and stamp randomly on the side and corner of the front of the
shrine and emboss with the Baked Texture. Glue all the pieces together, and use a Posca pen to colour the edges in
a contrasting colour - I used a light blue. Finish off by adding embellishments of your choice.
So that's that! I think
I'm going to make some more little shrines with some of my other favourite
artists and heroes, like Leonora Carrington and Nina Simone. I would love to see what you make, so why not
