Hi Everyone
Welcome to my Thursday weekly post.
This week I am sharing a piece of 'Mini Art' that features an interactive element holding some 'hidden words'
The techniques I have used to create this piece are very much the same as I used last week when I created my long tag 'Choose to Shine' but I will outline them again today to recap.
I used That's Crafty! White Greyboard 4x4 squares as my substrate.
These can be purchased with either round or square corners and are sold in packs of 5 and as always with That's Crafty! Surfaces they are excellent quality and very good value for money.
I adhered 2 of the squares together for this project as I wanted a slightly thicker base with a touch more rigidity - just my personal preference on this occasion but one square would suffice.
Using a palette knife I roughly scraped gesso over some, not all of the taped surface. Once dry I applied 3 colours of acrylic paint again using a palette knife working one colour at a time and drying between each application. Black was the final colour applied and for this I used not only a palette knife but also a brayer. Some of the brayered black paint settle and highlighted where the strips of tape joined to create some linear detail.
For a touch more detail I added some stamping using a text stamp and a texture stamp. You can use any of this type of stamp that you may have or you could always take a look at the range That's Crafty! carry. (see below for a direct link).
I couldn't resist a few splatters of paint too!

I stamped a couple of circular text stamps from Finnabairs 'Don't Forget to Fly' stamp set and coloured them with distress inks to create two embellishments. I placed the smaller one to the top right of the square
and the larger one to the bottom left of the square.
The Focal and Interactive feature
This is a strip of greyboard cut from a That's Crafty! 4.5 x 9 inch panel that is scored and folded at its central point to create a 'double' panel that will open and close. The 'Wanded Star' that sits atop is created using Seth Apters Robo Star die, heavy cardstock, acrylic paint and a few more of Finnabairs inked circular stamps.
The 'Wanded Star' not only serves as an embellishment but it can also be used to open the folded panel to reveal some hidden motivational words, 'Never forget the power of you!'
