Sharing an assemblage this week, where I paired a Affirmation stencil with an Affirmation stamp and the return of the magnificent Greyboard Wings!

Instructions

After applying Gesso to the MDF panel, I set about getting some paint onto the panel. By applying small amounts of Antique Silver and Antique Gold onto craft sheet, I then pressed the panel into the paints. This immediately not only transfers the paint to the panel but also creates interesting texture.  Once dry, I sprayed walnut ink (dissolving crystals in a spray bottle) and Lustre Gold, allowing to air dry.

With a Sepia fineliner pen, I stencilled an Affirmation directly onto the panel.

A touch of Light Texture Paste was applied, with palette knife, in small areas of the panel and when dry, returning to adding more Lustre and walnut ink to the panel.

Laying the panel aside I turned to the greyboard wings, first painting with Chestnut Brown, the base layer before applying Crackle Paste (which I applied very lightly and randomly), following the instructions before applying the Ivory paint. Once dry, it was the same sprays used to bring colour to the wings. I found that by applying the sprays, leaving to air dry and then applying another spray, created lovely character. It's only a personal preference but I try to avoid using a heat gun.  I find, for me, air drying brings much more interest to the end result.

When applying the initial paint and Crackle, I slightly bent the greyboard to bring a sense of movement to the wings. Again, this is only a personal preference.

For a central element for the wings, a heart was an obvious choice. I had a partially prepared heart hanging around (that is a peek at my creative life...99.9% of my projects begin from leftovers/pre-prepared elements that suddenly catch my eye and become the springboard for a project). I know I used the Rust Kit initially on the heart before applying Metallic Antique Gold paint.

Layering a stamped Affirmation (this one matches the Affirmation stencil but only inking up "power of you") onto stained calico, attaching a rusted safety pin, adhering this to the prepared heart which is subsequently adhered to the wings.

The Affirmation was then stamped repeatedly onto the panel. I held the stamp in my hand, even when applying the ink, this gives a distressed appearance because firstly the stamp isn't correctly inked up and secondly, by not using an acrylic block, I can provide an uneven pressure for stamping.
