Another week has passed (rather fast, if you ask me…) and I’m back with another post for That’s Blogging Crafty! Whooohoo…

Today, I am going to share a wintery creation for you and hopefully get you into the spirit of mixed media style.

I am using two large door hangers for this project. I will share a link to the tags down below for you in case you want to make your own.

This is a mixed media project so you will need a fair few supplies, but it is a fairly easy project. I have narrowed it down to a few steps. Let’s get to it…

Step 1: Cover both tags in white Gesso so that whatever else you put on the tags will withstand it. Besides, if you do it at the same time, you can create fun texture by letting them ‘kiss’ and peel back again. Dry the surface using your heat gun.

Step 2: Add dashes of platinum crackle paste. You can use a white crackle paste, if you like. This is when you have to be patient and allow it to dry .. or not… and blast it with your heat gun! Ha!

Step 3: Mix up some Halo effect glitter with some crystal flakes and Gloss Gel to create your own glittery texture gel. I was after silvery/grey stars so this worked brilliantly. You can use a lighter glitter, if you like.

Step 4: Apply through That’s Crafty! Stencil in a few areas.

Step 5: This is when you really must wait and let everything dry. If you try to heat dry it, you will melt your stars and create an almighty mess as glitter is in fact plastic! Don’t miss the tip in the picture…

Step 6: Use Lindy’s sprays to add colour to the door hanging and heat dry in between layers. Do this until satisfied with the coverage.

Step 7: Use an archival ink like Stazon (I used black) for stamping here and there to add interest.

Step 8: Sponge around the edges. Sponge some corners darker than others. This will create a better balance. Add a dash of that dark ink onto the stars and here and there to highlight the fab textures you achieved in the process.

Step 9: I manage to lose all shine on my stars in the process, but fear not! I added some Diamond Stickles and it looked even better!

Step 10: Die cut, decorate and arrange embellishments. When happy with the arrangement, adhere to the tag using hot glue. I used gauze, snowflakes covered in various embossing powders, pearl, Tim Holtz Holiday die cuts and more!
