That's Crafty!: June 2016

Hello everyone, Debs here with another Thursday project! This week I have a tag to share. I've been playing with die cuts and thought I'd use some on the tag.

Here what I did

Using stencils with clear crackle paste I coated the tag, once completely dry I painted it with metallic paint in blues greens, gold and copper. I blended the colours so there were no stark edges.

While the tag was drying I found some of my die cuts (sorry cannot remember whose) and decided to use them as frames. I used a stencil and the paste again randomly over the frames to create texture and one dry painted two coats of paper rust.

I found some vintage photos to go in the frame, but chose to leave some blank. I was inspired by the room we had for our wedding, which was dark brown walls with empty guilt frames arranged artistically.

On one frame I added some lace and flower, I repeated the flower at the top for balance.

I didn't want to add words as I like to imagine who the people are, what's the connection, and why are there some missing. Of course you know I put empty frames but shhhhh, not everyone has to know.

Hello crafters! Today, I have a greyboard ATC to share with you, which is simply decorated with Dinky Stencils, paint and pens.

Here's what I did...

1. I started by base-coating the ATC with Snowflake paint, then I painted it with a couple of coats of Cherry Red paint.

2. Using the stencil brush, I stencilled the Metal Grid Background and the Enchanted words with Bora Bora paint, blending a little Snowflake paint on top. I used Snowflake paint to stencil the three Hearts, then Little Black Dress for the Numbers.

3. Once the paint was dry, I replaced the stencils one by one, and used the black Sharpie to outline the words, metal grid and hearts, then the white Sharpie to outline the numbers.

4. I used a round paintbrush to add some splatters of Snowflake paint, then sponged Little Black Dress around the edges of the ATC.

Hi everyone

I haven’t had much crafty time this week so thought I would share with you another of the ATC’s that I made for That’s Crafty! recent launch show on Hochanda.

What I Did:-

I started with a That’s Crafty! white/greyboard atc and painted with acrylic paint. I then stamped with brown Archival ink the texture stamp. I then stencilled the drops using a clear texture paste. To each of the drops I added some tiny watch parts and then let it all dry.

Once it was all dry I toned down the paint with Distress ink. I stamped the tap onto some stamping card, coloured with Distress inks, cut out and added to my ATC.

I further embellished it with some old clock faces and the sentiment I typed out on my old type writer.

Quote stamp from my stash

This week I have been in the process of thinking about some decisions I need to make. Weighing up the pros and cons and gathering information to help me make the right decisions. Nothing major, but on my mind none the less and this has inspired my journal page. I have stepped away from the bright colours to a more pastel palette which I guess signifies a more reflective mood than usual for me and followed imagery which has rectangles, circles and arrows all looking for balance. There is no single feature image as this is about decision process not decision results instead I have used a quote I thought particularly relevant.

I cut up pieces of old card and ephemera and used gel medium to attach to the page.

Next I gave it a light coat of gesso and when that was dry ran the Gelatos around and inside the blocks of card so there was colour everywhere but mostly on the edges of the card pieces.

Next I got out my box of hand carved stamps and selected ones which suited my mood and stamped them in the paints in co-ordinating colours.

So as not to lose the edges of the first layer of card pieces I went round them lightly with a blue water colour pencil to add shadow.

Next came Chit Chat words which reflect the decision process and my stamp which I stamped on to stamping card, cut out and stuck on with the gel medium.

The Prima Christine Adolph Adhesive Wildflowers and Butterflies Rub-On sheet is packed with images, varying in sizes. It would have been too easy to neglect the smaller designs until I realised they would work perfectly with the dimensions of the smallest Prima watercolour paper pad.

Extras:- Stamp – netting, Fabric scrap, Scrap of stained/stamped paper leftover from a previous project

Instructions

Rub the Adhesive Rub-On onto the Prima watercolour paper pad followed by rubbing the foil onto the design.

Mist the paper with water before applying the Infusions. How you work with the Infusions is your own preference, I tend to use lots of water and in this instance I also left some white space peeking through. Leave to dry before removing the paper from the pad.

Once removed from the pad, dip the edges of the paper into Violet Storms, I worked on the craft sheet to do this. I then randomly stamped a netting stamp to give some depth and texture to the panel but any stamp will do for this.

Create a cardbase from watercolour paper and adhere the prepared panel.

To finish, layer a ChitChat sticker with a fragment of fabric and a piece paper (stained deli wrap stamped with French text, leftover from a previous project).

Hi everyone,

Donna here today with a card featuring my favourite Dina Wakley face stamp, she always looks so lost in her thoughts.

What to do:

Take a piece of Strathmore paper and placing the stencil on top, spray with a mixture of Dylusions sprays in the ‘citrus’ shades, remove stencil and dry with heat gun.

Next, take the chevron stamp from a PaperArtsy set and apply directly on top of the background using Fern Green Archival ink.

Stamp the face on a separate piece of Strathmore paper and colour with Distress Markers and a water brush, fussy cut out and adhere just on top of the chevron image.

For the finishing touches, add a Tim Holtz sentiment.

I also added a couple of leaves from one of my hand carved stamps, mount on black and then white cardstock……..and there she is…deep in thought again ;)

Hi there, this week I’m sharing my first attempt at altering an acrylic tag using paint and I hope you like what I’ve created which is on one of my favourite themes, nature.

Ingredients:

Tim Holtz Cling Stamp Sets – Wildflowers, Watercolor

PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Acrylic Paint – China, Smurf, Zucchini

Ranger Jet Black Archival Ink

Stazon Ink – Cheery Pink, Pumpkin, Olive Green, Stone Grey

Recipe:

Peel the backing off both sides of the tag and stamp your chosen wild flower on the back twice, using the grey ink. Once the ink is dry, paint over the top using green on the bottom half and the lighter blue on the top half.

I did try stamping the flower in colour on the front of the tag but the result wasn’t punchy enough so I stamped the flowers on stamping card with the pink, orange and green inks then cut the flowers out.

Stamp the butterfly you choose twice on stamping card with the black ink and paint with the china blue before cutting out.

Glue the flowers and butterflies on as shown and you’ll need to trim some of the flowers to fit.

Here’s a close up so you can see the texture in the background, as it might not show up as well in the main photo.

Hi everyone I've been playing in my journal this week with just paint and stencils. You can can get great effects using minimal tools.

Here's what I did

Using a poppy foam stamp I created the background by stamping in 3 colours over the page. This wasn't really done randomly, as I wanted to ensure that you got to see the colours individually as well as a whole. I also wanted to leave some white, so that it didn't go too dark.

I dried the pages, and then using a stencil and black paint I created the feature first; this was so that I could see where would be best to stamp the sentiments, so that it looked balanced. I wanted the women to stand out more from the background so used a white Gelatos around their bodies which pushed them out from the background.
